Zagg Invisible Shield HD & Proximity Sensor Problems

Message to Everyone with a EVO 4G LTE: There have been 2 primary issues relating to the proximity sensor. The 1st and most common is the fact that the ZAGG InvisibleShield is not cut out properly (top left cutout is not wide enough). Now the 2nd issue i have found after finding a few with a hardware defect directly relating to the proximity sensor itself. This is usually solved by swapping the device out. Others have seen some issues with the corner of the screen being raised (again hardware defect). This is similar to the original EVO 4G release where some phones had rising screens on the bottom along with heavy light bleeding. Now I can almost gurantee there are other issues as well but this is what I have found so far in within the small community of EVO 4G LTE owners with proximity issues.
ZAGG is also aware of this issue at hand and will be modifying the new cutout within the next week or so. Date obviously is not specified when.

I too was experiencing the same issue with the proximity sensor. I just returned the HD Zagg to Best Buy Mobile, and sure enough the issue is resolved. So in my case, it definitely was the Zagg. It's a shame too because the new HD version is definitely an improvement on the original, and I had a perfect installation. I'll definitely buy it again if they fix this issue.

I emailed Zagg, will they send out the corrected cover? It's been 2 weeks since someone said Zagg was aware of the issue. Any idea how much longer we have to wait?
I did call HTC about the screen going blank. They said i could return it under warranty & they'd repair it. Apparently the tech spt. person & their supervisor were unaware of the issues. I hope it's the Zagg protector & not the phone.

I had an HD Zagg installed yesterday at Best Buy on my replacement phone and have no issues. The shield does have some room to move around and I'm wondering if your shields were just to close to the sensor. Like I said, no issues whatsoever here. Love the shield too...feels naked!!!

It is truly bizarre to read the range of feedback with this issue. As I posted earlier, I had to return mine as it rendered my proximity sensor useless. Once removed, the proximity functionality was completely restored, making it clear the issue is not with my phone. Then others, the minority at this point, claim they have no proximity sensor issue with the Zagg HD. It would seem that this would be an all or none deal. The lack of a solid answer with these protectors is puzzling. I'm literally still stuck in limbo with no screen protector, as the only other one I have tried (CrazyOnDigital Screen Protector 3 pack from Amazon) had the same proximity sensor issue. I'm almost tempted to give the Zagg HD one more shot. I'll just continue to be OCD with the screen until there's a solution haha. Hoping that Ghost Armor solves the problem - hoping to to get one of those next week!

BB says that the screen protector will not interfere & that is not the issue. HTC says it could be the problem. Some say they rebooted their phone in the safe mode. Is that a good idea? I think i loose my apps i installed. How do i reboot in safe mode?

Zagg sent me a email, they did have issues with the protectors at 1st. Some made it to the retailers. Since mine is registered i'm getting a new one. If anyone has a issue with the Zagg they need to contact them for a replacement

You all do realize that the EVO is made out of gorilla glass right? I too purchased the Zagg HD as well but i didnt really need to.

I work at a best buy and a customer exchanged an evo for some issue they were having. Out of curiosity i took a brand new pair of sharp scissors to wanted to see if the device does have this glass. Well i took the scissors and began scratching away at the screen of the returned EVO like there was no tomorrow and I was very surprised that it did not leave any scratches at all! Try it for yourself. ;) So with that being said, i didnt think that the Zagg HD was necessary. even though its HD, i do notice that the natural naked screen looks much much clearer and sharper.

Did you try using sand and see if the grit will scratch the screen?

I did not because i didnt have any of those materials around me and also i dont see myself being in that situation with my phone. I dont know how well gorilla glass works but from the minute information that i know, it suppose to keep from regular scratches such as it being in your pocket along with your keys, etc.

Just curious those of us who work outside and come into contact with different types of environmental substances, rocks, sand, metal.

I worked in the mobile department of a best buy until about two months ago. If we would have done that to a returned phone we would have been fired.

Dang, i guess your location is stricter. Each best buy has different policies from what ive experienced....

It dies, but sand and grit will scratch it. You might not think you come into contact with it, but you definitely do. Its all around us. Its mixed in with the lint in most peoples pockets.

I have the Invisible Shield Dry and I had the same problem. I took off my Shield and haven't had any more problems.

I had a new Zagg protector put on @ BB today. My issue is still around. I tried the calibration as it was suggested by someone who had the same issue. It fixed theirs, not mine. I don't think the protector is the isssue. Before installing the new protector i used my phone, soon as i put it against my ear the screen went blank. I need my keyboard lit up when i'm using the phone. Trying to use the power button is a real headache.

I don't think its the protector either, however I do think the protector makes it worse, I ended up putting a razor blade like someone suggested and cut the top corner where the sensor is off and it helped but I notice it still didn't get rid of the problem entirely

I took my new Zagg to BB & before installing the new protector the screen went black. After the new protector was installed the issue remains. HTC acts like there is nothing wrong. BB says the same thing. Since i didn't buy it from Sprint Sprint won't do anything, i'm past my return period. Any suggestions?

I have been having proximity sensor issues as well. I have the Zagg HD screen protector. I have not yet contacted Zagg about a replacement. Sometimes the phone screen appears when I pull the phone away from my ear and sometimes it does not. Most of the time it does not which means I have to hit the power button to get the phone app screen.

However I would like to have people try something to see if it changes the behavior. Try going to settings-display-brightness and turn off "Automatic Brightness" and see if that does anything.

It seemed to help with the proximity sensor than it got squirrely again. Than I discovered something interesting which I tried several times and I would like other people to try. I pulled the phone from my ear and I turned on a bright desk lamp with the phone away from my ear.

When the desk light was on I would see the phone app screen come on. When I turned the desk light off the phone screen would blank. I did this multiple times.

I would be very interested to see if anyone can reproduce what I am seeing especially with out a Zagg HD or with a Zagg HD where some trimming was done.

Thanks,
Marc
