Zenfone 2 First Impressions/First Question

So far, pretty bad. This is from 96% this morning. I would hold off final judgement until I do a few more cycles, but I'm pretty confident this is not going to look like my Z3 Compact...

A few more cycles will tell the story. On my nexus 6 the battery life improved for my usage when I updated to 5.1 so hopefully it can always get better!

I had to plug it in at about 4:00 earlier this afternoon, it was down to 28%. I had about 3.5 hours of screen on time. I'll take a screenshot tomorrow evening or before I charge again. Needless to say, so far after yesterday and today, the battery isn't that great for me. That may sway me to look for a different phone even though I really like this one. I don't want to be concerned with my phone dying while out and I don't want to always carry a charger. I will say fast charging is glorious. I was up to over 60% in about 20 minutes.

My experience is similar... good standby, lousy SoT. Here is some standby data: charged to 100 percent before bedtime, left on my nightstand untouched for 6 hours. One SIM active, WiFi on, an exchange account set to push along with outlook.com and 3 Google accounts, Facebook sync, etc. Lost 9% battery, which I think is pretty good.

However, I have lost an additional 3% in the time it took to write this post...

It sounds like something isn't right. There's no way a battery of that size should last so little; I'm hoping a software update fixes that.

Something is keeping mine awake and since there isn't root yet, I can't install anything to really monitor wakelocks.

And I'm down to 31% at 7:27, so I've lost 5% in the 16 minutes since I snapped the screenshot.

And now down to 22% at 8:28 with some browsing on Reddit.

Well, a bunch of us will be getting one soon, hopefully by the end of next week. So, don't give up on the idea just yet. Let's see what the group generally experiences. There may be a downloaded app on any particular person's phone that is causing the problem. Even if it is the result of a native app or setting, it may be easy to set it to prevent waking and battery drain.

So let's see what the whole group, including the people who already have it in this thread, experience and whether we can help find a solution. Too early to tell if there is a battery drain problem or not, but thanks to the early adopters who are posting their experiences here. There should be at least 15 more people posting about it this time next week (depending on shipping). So just hold on a bit longer.

Here's 3dMark Ice Storm Unlimited test scores. The maxed out screenshot was from Ice Storm Extreme.

I'm going to use this for a few more days then I may be looking for a different phone. Battery isn't impressing me so far. I got way better battery life on my old OPO. Another thing that irks me is screen brightness, it isn't very good in direct sunlight and with summer coming, that'll be a pain.

I see an option there that says "detect battery draining apps." Does that show you any info?

Also, have either of you tried GSAM battery monitor to see if you can get any more insight?

I believe that option adds an option to each app in the battery menu to allow that app to wake up or keep it awake.

Something is draining the battery. What is your screen brightness set to? Do you do a fresh boot every day with 100% battery?

I have not rebooted the phone and I shouldn't have to. I've seen that other people with this version are also having battery drain issues. There's not a whole lot I can do at this point without root and checking wakelocks.

Maybe you should not have to but it can help you trouble shoot. If your battery life varies between days after a reboot it could be a app.

I start turn my phone off after charging to 100% just about every night so start with a fresh boot and seem to have trouble free devices. But if course I do not a ZF2 yet. Should have it next week.

I'm with bloodrunscold on this. There's actually no obvious wakelock issue for me... I'm not seeing unusual activity during standby. It just looks like overall high power usage. I'm going to keep using it for a few more days, and see if the situation improves.

Settings->power management->usage table. Better than gsam. Good news...I have no wakelocks. Bad news... this memory/processor combo is a battery hog.

I just unplugged it from the charger. It's dropped 2% in 5 minutes while catching up on what's been posted here over night. My brightness is turned all the way down since it's still dark. I'll have to monitor what power management days later on today. It does seem like this thing just sucks power once you start using it. I'll reboot but I doubt that'll do anything.
