ZVH OTA update.zip

If you lost your root and are on ZVC, you can use the ZVD root/gingerbreak instructions to get root back.

Once you have root, you can flash_image the stock V9 recovery.

From there, it is the same as we discussed earlier, run the ZVH update.zip Then use the VC instructions to run rage.

Yeah, I went all the way back using KDZ to V9 and just go root. About to apply V9 recovery now and keep trucking. Thanks! Hopefully I can get all the steps recorded so I can make single post guide. Im tired though... lol

Well, that didint work. I get out of space error when going from VD to V9 recovery! Ugh... Too tired for this... Going to bed!

EDIT: Nevermind. Im not stopping. Revert back to stock V9 now.

I don't know if this will work for the Optimus S, but here's how I rooted it on my V:

-add su, superuser, busybox, and the bash directory to the zip file
-edit the updater-script in the zip file adding at the end of the permissions section:
Code:
set_perm(0, 0, 06755, "/system/xbin/su");

I'm still working on getting it fully functional on the Optimus V, I have pretty much everything but the phone/3g itself working. I've made all the changes I know about, but either I'm missing something, or the kernel isn't compatible with the old radio image.

-changed eri.xml in both framework-res.apk and made copies in data and data/local
-replaced apns-conf.xml with one from IHO build
-replaced mms.apk
-edited build.prop to change all references to virgin mobile and the appropriate numeric ids

Things I changed that shouldn't affect the radio/phone:

-removed most Sprint bloat
-removed the radio.img and the portion of the updater-script that installs it
-added su, superuser, and busybox, and added line in updater-script to set su permissions (have root now)
-removed livewallpapers
-removed non english/spanish tts
-edited thunderc_keypad.kl to swap home/menu keys

What's working:
-adb
-root
-camera, video camera, gallery, video player, music player
-browser, email
-market (upgrades to the new market on second launch)
-gps (but it behaves a bit strange)
-accelerometer
-compass
-maps/navigation/latitude
-bluetooth (I think, no hid support so I couldn't test my keyboard, but it did find it in the scan)
-voice search, even the key is mapped correctly (should be able to use the files for IHO)

What's not working:
-phone
-3g

Any help fixing the phone would be greatly appreciated. I'm afraid I need the activate app for VirginMobile, but the only one available has never worked with any Gingerbread based ROM.

From what folks have experienced, the ZVH ROM requires the ZVH radio to get phone/3g working.

That's what I'm afraid of, but I'm hoping there's a workaround. I don't know if there's anyway to backup the current radio image, so I'm not about to flash it and brick my phone till someone with more knowledge about the radios tells me different.

since im still running stock, where do i put the download on my sd card?

you put the update.zip file on the root of the SD card. Like if you click on my computer and see the drive for the SD card. Double click that drive to open the SD card and that is where you put the update file. Good luck!

Can I use this to quick update my stock Optimus S? Guess I am tired waiting for the update to get sent through the phone.

Yes, as the previous poster mentioned, download and place update.zip on your /sdcard. If it isn't named update.zip rename it to that.

Boot into recovery and choose the second option "apply:update.zip"

is anyone having some weird touch-screen issues where most of the time it'll tap over and over really quickly instead of a long-press or while typing on the gb keyboard it'll type a letter two or three times?

Yep, there's been discussion about this problem. At first it was thought to be Drew's OC kernel, but it may be more of the GB update itself. I noticed this issue after flashing to gROM, but it's working fine now. Currently, no explanation for it.

thanks... i did a search to no avail. it was happening to me before flashing the OC kernel and i haven't flashed gROM yet
hopefully this gets fixed sooner than later because this might be a deal breaker for me

Maybe it's doing a touchscreen calibration? Like I said, mine stopped doing it and is working fine now.

I accepted the update from Sprint this morning on my Optimus S, unaware that it would remove my root access. I used the simple Gingersnap utility to root my phone before. I tried readiing thru this thread but I feel a little overwhelmed and lost.

Basband Version: LS670MVH_6150
SW Version LS670ZVH

So how can I get this phone root back?

Thanks

Ok, I followed the instructions on how to Revert Back to ZVD... and now my phone is stuck on the ANDROID start screen... help! I don't know what I did wrong.

You can try reboot 2-3 times through "adb reboot" and if that doesn't work do "adb reboot recovery" and clean up your data and cache.
