Why does my screen go black when I make a call (Nexus 4)?

Nexus 4 screen problem

when i make a call, the screen goes black preventing me from ending the call.How do I stop it. It is very difficult to terminate the call eating my minutes. Sometimes I have to power off to terminate. HELP!

It's presumably a problem with the proximity sensor. If you can't get it fixed, a better-than-nothing workaround would be Settings, Accessibility, Power Button Ends Call.
