Why is my battery dying so fast!?!?

I have a HTC First Facebook phone and even when idle it somehow drains from 100% to 0%and im sick and tired of this damn battery i will be in the middle of a phone call no low battery warning and i will shut off and die and it the Sharp Aquos Crystal like this i am getting one soon but is there a way for my battery to last long i will us instagram while the battery at 100% and in 15 minutes im at 20%
