Unable to download apps although they show as installed

I have been unable to download apps after installing them from my PC. They show as installed on the PC, but I can't find hide nor hair of them on the Galaxy S III. I've tried the apps pages, the apps manager, the several screens accessed from the Applications manager (swipe left) and can't find them. I've rebooted, and even reset to factory settings to supposedly start from scratch. Every move works to cause more problems. I would really like to do whatever is necessary to gain control of this #$@$# device which I've been using for two years.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and would love to find some sort of directory or manual that would start from the very beginning with a factory reset, and then step by step build the operation without using the so-called wizard.
