Phone black screen problem

Hi,

My Samsung Note 8 was fine when I last use it before I plug in to the charger and waited for about 2 hours so I think now should be fully charged.

After charging when I tried to use my phone, I could only see black screen and blue blinking led light (those that looks like new unread messages led light), I tried pressing all physical side buttons (power/volume), I tried pressing the home button nothing happens, still black screen and blue blinking led light.

pressed (power button + lower volume button). phone reset and load at the [SAMSUNG Galaxy Note8] logo and stuck there forever. I waited for 15mins still stuck there.

After 15mins, I pressed (power button + lower volume button) again, phone only have black screen and nothing else, no led light or text logo.

Now phone is completely black no led light or text logo, no effect when I press any side buttons or home button. Tried plug in charger to phone and switch on charger also nothing happens on phone.

Please help. Thanks.

My very old Note 5 that I never use was on the charger for a couple days and I could get nothing from it. I thought it was so old and left in a drawer for so long that it was just dead, un-chargeable, never to work again. For whatever reason, I left it plugged in and forgot about it. It was probably plugged in for at least two weeks. When I noticed it, I decided to give it one last shot to try to power it on before I relinquished it to recycle heaven and to my surprise, it powered on. Not likely, but maybe it will work for you after changing for a few days.

When you "left it plugged in and forgot about it" for at least two weeks, did the phone show any signs of phone alive during charging (e.g. battery increasing percentage bar/number/animation/led to show it was charging) or was it completely black (looks dead nothing at all)?

I would leave it plugged into a wall outlet undisturbed for at least a day, then press and hold Power for about 30 seconds to see if anything happens.

I have been charging it plugged into a wall outlet undisturbed for about 3 hours and just tried then press and hold Power for about 30 seconds nothing happens.

What happens if I could switch on go into the phone again and use it like normal? I mean it seems like something is faulty and I am scared the problem will happen again and completely dead again, what should I repair/change (battery? main board? display?) to make my phone good condition?

It's hard to say. Historically, the blinking blue LED is a bad sign. If the phone does manage to start working again, and if it's not feasible to upgrade to a newer phone, then first of all, I would make sure you're backing up or syncing your important data somewhere safe on a regular basis. Then bring it to a repair shop and describe the problem -- they could probably test the battery and replace it if it's on its last legs.

If the phone does not work again, is there anyway to get the data out of the phone?

If I understand correctly, if the phone is just a display problem only, the display component can be changed (repairman replace take out faulty display and replace a new display) and the data will still be intact after the display is changed. I am wondering before the display is replaced, is there a way to get the data out of the phone or attach a temporary display to get the data out?

I am wondering is there a internal memory card that can be taken out to some device to get the data out of the phone?

You'd have to bring it to a repair shop and explicitly tell them not to wipe the phone. Some repair shops will reset the phone routinely (perhaps to prevent any liability on their part, but also possibly if the repair job requires replacement of the motherboard as well).

If you didn't backup or sync your important data anywhere, and if the phone is actually dead, then your only hope is to bring it to a data recovery specialist, that can cost hundreds of dollars, possibly even >$1000. Internal storage is on a chip that's soldered on the motherboard -- you can't just remove it and plug it into another phone.

When it was on the charger for a couple weeks, I never paid attention to it. It wasn't till I went to take it off the charger that it showed it was 100% charged. In my surprise that I actually got an indication that the phone was charged, I tried to turn it on and was surprised that it powered on as if it never had any problems.

After the phone was powered on, I checked it for a couple days to see if it would still power on & how much battery it might lose being off and not in the charger. It seemed perfectly fine so I put it back in it's drawer fully charged to be forgotten again (unless I needed it for a backup phone). That was at least a month ago.

Pulled it out today, plugged it in to see how much battery it still had; 77% (1st photo) & then powered it on. Next photos are powering on with Samsung 5 logo, then lock screen, then home screen.

BUT the battery is definitely shot. In just the few minutes of resizing the photos and writing this post, the battery has depleted to from 77% to only 12%. I imagine being forgotten in a drawer for a couple years didn't do the battery any favors. I suppose if I ever had to use it as a backup, it would only work if it was plugged in and even then, it might not be able to keep enough of a charge to manage a phone call.

And, as you can see by this latest screenshot, how depleted the battery is; battery is at 23% with only 9 minutes until it's fully charged. If there was any juice left to this battery it would take at least an hour to fully charge.
