How to stop "Screen overlay detected" from popping up again?

I hate that I have to turn off screen overlay for all applications just to give an application a permission. It is so annoying , this happens 1-3 times a day. I have to turn off all screen overlay, accept the permission, then turn on all screen overlay apps just to have another app ask for permission later. Then again I have to turn all screen overlay apps off and repeat the cycle. This never happened before, why is it all of a sudden happening now? Makes me want to switch to iPhone.
