i would like to know is my htc desire locked?

i am looking to switch my htc from at&t to t-mobile. i dont know if that is possible. the phone is paid for completely and was never on a contract. i used it for about 5 months on a monthly unlimited plan.

Put any SIM card other than an AT&T (or AT&T MVNO) card into it. If it doesn't ask for an unlock code, it's not locked. (Try at the TMobile store - they should have a card they can pop into it for a minute.)

If it's locked, AT&T isn't required to get the code for you - it's not on a contract - but they may. Ask nicely. (If it's branded AT&T they most likely will.) It takes a few days.
