Macbook air nor PC will recognize Galaxy Note 3

I received this phone recently. It is not yet activated, but I'm trying to import contacts. Neither of my computers (Mac & PC) will recognize the phone when I connect it.

You will need to install Samsung USB drivers for it to be seen

Welcome to Android Central! When you connect via USB, do you see a USB notification icon appear when you swipe the notification panel down? If so, tap it and make sure MTP is selected. Also, try using different USB cables.
