How do I get my Note 5 to connect to my PC for file transferring?

So I've looked for an answer to this for months because I just want my music on my phone without jumping through a million hoops.

My phone seems to be able to connect to the PC with the original charger but as soon as it appears it disappears and then reappears. Changing the usb option to file transferring does absolutely nothing for me.

I feel like I've tried everything except factory resetting but I don't want to setup my whole phone again for something that might not help.

First things I would do in such a scenario is try a different high quality USB cable, or another port. Also, I would ensure that the drivers for the phone are properly installed on the PC.
