Greenish blinking screen after display screen times out instead of home screen.

Phone not connected to any carrier, so no SIM, LCD on way out, but can play two or three movies in row without a hitch. However, when display screen times out, phone falls into blinking screen hard to come out of. Would the blinking stop if a SIM card is installed and connected to a Verizon line?

I think not. I'm guessing that there is a hardware fault.
