Keep texts when getting new SIM

[Android Central Question]

I've upgraded from a MOTO G4 Play to a MOTO 6. Apparently, the old SIM doesn't fit in the 6. Is there a way to keep/transfer my text messages. Any other info I'll lose (besides contacts)?

If you save your contacts to your Google account rather than the local Phone account, the contacts all sync immediately to your Google Contacts in the cloud, which means they also easily sync to any new device you log into. That's why I always recommend saving contacts to Google, and not the Phone account.
