Select to Speak not reading text

A couple of months ago, Select to Speak was able to read text out loud on my LG V20 VS99520c with no problem, current version: Android 8. It is an awesome feature. I used it to mainly read Google Docs files. I reset my phone a month ago. Now, even though I have Select to Speak on, it wont read any text in any file. However, it will read web pages out loud. Is there some other setting I need for it to work?
