Is there a handwriting application for Nexus 4?

I called the google csr and they said nexus 4 has the capability of recognizing handwriting

so I downloaded evernote and papyrus but they don't recognize my handwriting

Is anyone successful?

But, frankly, I think as big as the Nexus 4 screen is, it is too small to use effectively for this purpose. Have you tried using Android's Gesture Typing? Settings -> Language & Input -> Google Keyboard -> Settings -> Gesture Typing. I guarantee you, it will be much faster than struggling with handwriting recognition and works with any app which accepts text input.

If you're looking for a handwriting to text app try stylus beta in the play store. It works well and it's free

Looks interesting. I wonder what they intend to charge for it once the beta program has completed?

Even so, for me the mere act of having to reach for a stylus each time I wanted to write something would get old really fast. Sure, using a fingertip might work (especially on a large screen device such as a tablet) but I think that would also get old pretty fast.

Despite what Google's csr told you, I don't think handwriting recognition is supported natively by the operating system. If it was, you would see it used everywhere and dozens or hundreds of free apps.

More likely, each developer has to work out his own recognition engine and that is why these apps (the good ones, anyway) are fairly expensive.

Sorry, that is not "handwriting recognition" - it is merely drawing pictures on the screen, pictures in the form of letters and numbers. Call it handwriting, if you like.

The recognition part is where those drawings are interpreted by software which analyzes the pictures you are drawing and makes a best effort to determine what characters & punctuation you intended. The PalmOS used in the original PDA's solved this problem by forcing the user to draw characters following specific patterns known as the "Graffiti" alphabet - Graffiti (Palm OS) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Now that I look at it, I see there are several Graffiti apps in the Play Store; I might even give one of them a try, since I am quite proficient with Graffiti being a Palm user from way back. But I digress. As I said earlier, if the Nexus 4 had true handwriting recognition ( Handwriting recognition - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ) built in, there would be apps by the hundreds taking advantage of it. Instead, the number of decent handwriting recognition apps seems to be quite limited and for the most part not inexpensive. Now, excuse me while I go and give that Graffiti app a try.
