Microphone stopped working N7 2013

The microphone on my Nexus 7 2013 has stopped working. I just installed the 5.1.1 update that was pushed last week. Don't know if that caused it or not. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome back! How have you tested the microphone? Using a Hangouts call, or recording a video?

Thanks! Don't have too many issues with the N7. I've tried a google search, listens then says "try OK google or tap mic" (when I close it says "Sorry I didn't hear that"), nothing on a recorded video, and nothing on a TWC Phone2Go app. Uninstalled the P2G as maybe something wrong with permissions but no change. Not sure if Lollipop did it as I don't use voice stuff that much but sure it was working in KitKat. I'll try the cache wipe and maybe Marshmallow will help.

The 2013 N7 only has one mic, so it's possible the mic just failed (or perhaps the mic opening is blocked or clogged by debris). http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...microphones-does-nexus-7-have-where-they.html

A new twist to the problem. Still no mic in safe mode so I don't think it is an "app" problem. However, played around with the guest account and the microphone works perfectly there. I started to delete a lot of apps that I recently installed but still no good. I guess I have to do a factory reset?

Now that is a strange twist. Factory reset is a good next step.
