Lock Screen Security help.

I just recently switched to an android phone (HTC one m8) after years of using Apple iPhone and must say that I'm loving android far better than iPhone. Anyways, lol, I'm having trouble getting my lock screen to work properly. I've set a password up and it only works sometimes. Sometimes when I swipe to unlock or double tap it just opens right up and other times it asks for my password in order to unlock. Am I doing something wrong? I don't want anyone to have access to my phone and at times even when I've set a password up it just lets me right in without asking for password. I've tried to Google this but only get topics like "how to unlock phone when forgetting password, etc." If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

There an option in security settings to choose how long it takes before the phone locks again.

Ah ok. I see it now. It was set on default 15 minutes. Thanks I completely overlooked this.
