thats what i'm thinking, Ksmith was in the vortex rooting threads and did say the same rageagainstthecage rooting method works, and i actually like ADB so that makes me happy. When i actually get to play with the phone tomorrow night i'll start comparing them. I may actually try to rom with CM7, lol, just don't tell her. Though i am worried about the recoveries, thats all i'm really nervous about, but i think that's already been brought up and it was just that the home key acted like menu, because their positions are swapped, which is what i'm pretty sure is the only thing wrong with the roms too. though i wont be surprised to find things like sms and other things not working...

Divx and Xvid videos work great for me and i'm using CM7. I keep about 5 movies stored on my SD card at a time for random boredom, and they do pay off. But they do in fact work on my Optimus S...There's an app from the market that plays them flawlessly. It's called QQplayer. There are also other players on the market that will play .avi's with no problem.

When you flash CM7 on the VS660 you might try using my ROM with mik_os's kernel, for the fact that the VS660 is older than the LS670, but slightly newer than the P500. The kernel source is more like the P500 though. Not sure if either kernel would work but mik's is probably closer.

and yeah the recovery could be tricky. Honestly I'd flash the recovery kernel to boot partition, that way if it works, it will just boot recovery instead of android, if it doesn't work, you still have LGE's recovery. Verify LGE's recovery is useful enough to reflash boot or you have another way before trying. If it has fastboot, ignore this paragraph. lol

the divx codec does not work in cm7. im not sure why, it could be a licensing issue.

as for streaming i dont know what you are using but it may be using divx since it is lighter on the cpu. not sure if you could switch it to h264.

Yeah, I'm not hear asking for streaming support because these programs/apps are known not to work with 2.3 across everything running it.

But Orb streams rtsp (or whatever - i get the letters mixed up sometimes) - I'm not that familiar with that streaming, if it uses h.264 or what... it looks like 3gp with how blocky it looks and all (from their website that is). But I get 9 times out of 10 "sorry this video cannot be played" but once in a while it will play. The app... well... the app never worked right to begin with (DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON IT!!!)

Plex, I'm new to. Not sure what it streams in and it doesn't give you an option to change it. Their forums already state CM7 won't show video, but just plays sound.

Crackle... eh, the app streams for less than 10 min before crashing, can't find any info why or of anyone else experiencing it.

You're best bet is to flash something like nROM, update the PRL, then flash back to Cyanogen

i've never found manufacturer Android patches to be useful. Most of Android is Apache license, which means they don't have to give out the code they modify. What we get is the GPL portions, that they have to release.

What they don't tell you is they modified the Apache portions as well, and even made some of the GPL mods dependent on the Apache mods, thus the code they release is LEGAL, but useless.

It might even compile but still will be missing features.

For example, no where in any manufacture release have I ever seen a Sprint/CDMA RIL code, so we'll never have PRL updates or the like until LG releases Gingerbread (in binary form) for our device.

Short answer, i doubt it could help us.

Secondary homescreen launcher

In the midst of the bad news, I have a separate question. Is it possible to integrate a market home screen launcher apk (zeam) into a rom as an alternate. I want to be able to load my zeam(or any) launcher homescreen (with default homescreen frozen with titanium))in the case of a force close or reboot. (Yes I'm runnin cm7 4/11/2011 nightly with cwma). By I have this thing set up beautifly. Runs amazing (till 30 min ago) Ill have some Quadrant testbench screenshots when im up and running again.
