Unable to use Screencast with LG Optimus S

Unable to connect screencast unless the phone is rooted and flashed with a custom ROM (CyanogenMOD 7). Is there a special setting for the phone and/or screencast to use screencast on an unrooted phone?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

do you have USB debugging checked in settings? also do you have the Android sdk tools installed.

Yes, USB debugging and Android SDK are installed. Guess I see that as being obvious since I can use screencast with custom ROM (as stated in the original question).
