phone wont charge after going dead?

My daughter let her turbo 2 go dead today as she forgot to charge it. It's plugged in now but nothing is happening. I told her to let it sit awhile charging before checking on it, but it's been 30 minutes and nothing is happening. Any ideas? Thanks!

This happened to my Nexus 7 once and what I did was while it is plugged in, i long pressed the power button for up to 30 seconds and it finally booted up.
