Hello, I used these instructions to boot from stock.
(Optimus V, 2.2 original ROM)
Install from Stock Optimus - ROMRepo

I had the drivers.
The phone roots without a hitch.

1. Move aospMod and gapps to phone's SD card
I left these as .zip files.
I put them in the sdcard's root folder.

2. Place phone in USB debug mode >setting>applications>development>USB debugging
3. Connect phone to computer
4. Extract ROMTools
Did all this.

5. Move CWRecovery to ROMTools directory
6. Rename CWRecovery to vrecovery.img
I put copies of CWRecovery in the ROMTools root folder and the ROM folder.
In each, I put a copy of vrecovery.img and then recovery.img as well.

7. Execute ROMTools
8. Select 'Flash recovery to phone'
9. Select 'Optimus V'
10. Select 'Flash Recovery and Drivers'
11. Follow prompts
Did all this.
Phone reboots to a screen with four options in bluish-purple.
Below is status written in yellow.
The four options are along the lines of:
'reboot'
'load update from sdcard' (which requires update.zip)
'wipe to factory default'
'wipe cache'
I rebooted, which just restart the phone as normal.

12. Once phone has booted into recovery 'MAKE BACKUP'!!!
13. Preform factory/data reset
I then assumed the four options screen, was the rebooting.
I performed the reset.
My phone now reboots into factory default.
Not an issue, but, I'd still like to get to the updated mod : j
Any ideas where I went wrong?

14. Under Mounts & Storage Format boot, system, data, cache.
15. Now we get to install the ROM! Choose "install zip from sdcard"
16. Navigate to the aospCMod you copied to your phone's sd card.
17. Select it, and let it flash.
18. Now, go back to install zip from sdcard. We now need to flash the Market.
19. Flash "Gapps"
20. Reboot
I never saw options for anything like this.

Also, the phone doesn't go into recovery mode from holding home+power.

This is where worries are for me, I want to be able to install roms but I am a little afraid of losing my new phone on this. Not to be a stiff but a little paranoid.

After it confirms temp root I start and flash custom recovery and once the progress bar get a little passed half the phone boots into stock recovery. Retried it a bunch of times and same results.

To test if you are rooted, download Terminal Emulator from the Android Market. Once installed, open it and type:

su

If you get a # sign as the prompt, you are rooted. If you still have a $ sign as the prompt, you are not rooted.

Re: [AIO] ROMTools v2.3.1 (ex-recoveryflasher) Tons of new featur

Not a huge deal, but the steps need to be updated to reflect the current package (problem in bold):

Recovery Instructions
- Download
- Unzip the folder somewhere (desktop is easy)
- Double click RecoveryFlasher.exe
- Choose 'flash recovery'
- Place your phone in debug mode >setting>applications>development>USB debugging
- Choose what you want to do
- Follow the prompts and hit "any" key when told
- Your phone will reboot into the recovery for you, and from there you can mount your sdcard and transfer a new ROM to flash. Or even easier, use the new "Flash ROM to phone" feature :)

You're responsible for your own actions Mr. Sister

EDIT: I also agree with
Have to admit it was all my fault for not renaming the included recovery.img to vrecovery.img.
it's an easy mistake to make, the instructions aren't totally clear on that part for a first timer.

Thanks for this tool!

Re: [AIO] ROMTools v2.3.1 (ex-recoveryflasher) Tons of new featur

Hello all. Total nub here with messing with phones, but I am good with computers. Some things I would like to know about this process and ROMTools. What I'm after is getting rid of the bloatware stuff on my phone, make the battery last longer, make the phone faster, etc.

So I have d-loaded ROMTools and extracted it into a folder. There are several application files in there. Is the ROMTools one the only one I need to worry about for this process?

(thumbnail image)

Do I need to perform all the tasks listed here?

Does ROMTools root my phone, or do I need to do that separately? And if so, can someone please link me the most nub friendly method of doing so?

I have been looking all over here, and I get somewhat lost in the different tutorials I see. For instance, I want to use the Rodimus ROM and I have seen that this needs to be renamed and placed in the proper folder, but I'm not sure where this folder is. Any help and understanding is greatly appreciated here :)

What if I just want to root and not load a stock ROM or anything, what do I have to do? (Sorry about the questions, Non-Techie here!)

Thank you very much for this I almost paid someone $30 last night to do this for me. It is very easy to do. I backed everything up and installed reds stock vm rom and I'm using out to swype this message right now. Thanks again this worked perfectly
Where did you get the Rom from? I see the rom folder only has a blank text file?
