Android Central Question

Anyone heard any rumours if the galaxy note 9 will support 5G? Would be great if it did so it would still be a relevant capable handset going through 2019 and beyond.

There are no phones out right now that support the new 5th Generation cell signal standard.
Motorola recently released an add on to their phones that allows for 5g connectivity, but not built into the phone itself.

The S9 and S9 plus support T-Mobile's new band 71/600MHz spectrum as will the Note 9 (as should any phone running the Snapdragon 845 chipset).

I think next year is when we'll start seeing 5g ready devices but as far as I know it's not really available anywhere anyway

The Note 9 can't support 5G mobile - they're using a SOC that doesn't support it. Unfortunate, because that'd be a BIG selling point for some people.

Why would you need a 5G capable device when it isn't even out yet? 5G won't be out for the majority of the USA until 2020 or later.

5G is not a concern to me as 4G was when it first rolled out. My speeds are fine now. It would not influence my phone buying decisions in the least for 2018. When it does start rolling out, like 4G, it will probably only be in a few select cities. So, most people probably wouldn't even benefit right away.

5G is a HUGE concept, and while some networks will be rolling part of that concept out later this year, 99% of us will not see the MOBILE PHONE network out for quite a while. Samsung will be releasing a 5G phone next year prior to the S10. They have not said if the s10 will support it or not.. though I suspect it will.

Wanting 5G right now is strictly a status bragging spec, that I don't want to pay for. The 4G LTE on the Note 9 will be far faster than anything on the market at the moment, and MOST of us will actually be able to take advantage of that speed.
