Why don't I have sounds play through my speaker or headphones?

No sound plays through speaker or headphones

I have a Galaxy S3 Mini and within the last two or so days my phone decided its not going to play any sound through the speaker or through the headphones whenever I plug in a pair. However from time to time in place of the real sound the speaker likes to play this crackling or high squeal like noise whenever I try and play a song or watch a video. What is the problem here?

Welcome to Android Central! Does that persist after a reboot? Try booting into Safe Mode, which temporarily disables all 3rd party apps. How to boot the Galaxy S3 into Safe mode? | Support | SAMSUNG Levant

If the problem disappears in Safe Mode, then something you installed is causing the problem. You may have to uninstall apps one by one until the problem disappears. If the problem persists in Safe Mode, then it's more likely to be a hardware or firmware problem.
