Samsung galaxy S5 Factory Reset is there a way to recover the storage without a third party?

So I was messing with my friends phone to lock it but instead of locking me out for 30 seconds or a minute it immediately did a factory reset. I knew that could happen but i thought it was suppose to give you a warning or at least lock out for a short time. I am trying to help him recover his old storage but he never used a third party system to back up his storage. Is there away to recover his old storage such as apps/pictures/contacts/etc just with the phone?
