Galaxy S6 - Sim card reader error?

Looking for advice on a problem that has incapacitated my Galaxy S6 on Sprint.

My device will no longer connect to the mobile network. I get an error which says: "Power off your device, insert the service provider UICC that came with the device, then power on the device." It rapidly drains the battery and becomes hot when on.

I bought the phone from Sprint in 2015 and hadn't touched the SIM card or any relevant settings. The phone will still connect to WiFi. One thing possibly of relevance: this occurred about 2 weeks after returning from a trip to Ireland, where I was using the device on a foreign network.

I took the phone to Sprint and they tried swapping in a new SIM card, to no avail. They seem to conclude that the SIM card reader is the problem. The phone is basically a loss at that point.

Any ideas?

I'd agree with them - and that more (like one of the cellular radios) may be bad too. You could have the motherboard replaced or you could replace the phone.
