Thanks for the help in advance.

Trying to get alerts only when VIPs email

Under "Notifications", I have "VIPs" set to Yes, and then my <email> set to No

However, I see no new notifications.

(When I set <email> to Yes, I do get notifications, but then I get notified on everything)

Is there a setting I missed? Thanks!

version 4.0.43-1

Did you add / change any of your contacts to vip in the email program? It might be named Priority Senders, but that is where you have to add who you want to get email notifications from.
No VIPS setup, no email alerts.

I got the same problem exactly as yours.
I tried the same procedure your tried.
Samsung S7 must fix this bug. The VIP email sound notification simply doesn't work. It is ridiculous, the email app can see VIP emails under VIP without any issue. The individual email account can make the sound notification without any issue. It seemed that they already made the email App to make the sound notification under VIPs, however, it just didn't work. This is the most important reason to switch samsung. It is garbage. My blackberry can do this 10 years ago.

Thanks for the help in advance.

I too am experiencing the same issue. As a workaround, I did the following...

Under Email Settings
- Turn on Notifications
- Select Notifications settings
- Turn on VIP notifications
- Configure VIP notification sound/vibrate
- Turn on notifications for all other email accounts
- Configure notification sound as Silent and vibrations as Off

This is allowing me to get sounds only for VIP contacts.

Thanks blizzkreig!

I just gave up on this. I spent an hour with Samsung chat support and all they told me to do was Clear Data and start over, which did nothing. Their staff prob is more focused on hardware aspects of the S7, and not really specialists on individual Samsung apps.

Workaround is just use IFTTT to notify you when email comes in from specific recipient. You do have to setup one rule per email.

Despite all this, Samsung's UI is still surprisingly better than others, so I continue to use it until something better comes along.

PS I continue to see newer versions of the Email app released, but without any useful release notes, am guessing it's just backend bug fixes.

Glad that worked for you. I'm still looking for a better solution. I am still missing critical emails, so I turned on repeat notifications through the accessibility setting. Since the non-VIP emails are technically still receiving notifications, I am getting the repeat notification sound for all emails (unless I acknowledge them within the time limit). This would be fine - during the day - but I am getting emails throughout the night.

I only want to be notified, yelled at, woken up for those emails I deem necessary. Does anyone have a suggestion for a 3rd party application until this gets fixed?

Hi,
I had the same problem. This is what I have found:
The email app setting need to be set correctly for VIP noptification in the email app
THen go to the system email setting and set there also. set email as priority even when do not disturb.
I set my other emails to in the email app to silent so this would not be an issues.
IF your email app is open and running and is the current open window on the screen you will not get notifications. However, if it is not running you will get the VIP notification for example timed out, or not the current open app or closed. In all these cases you will get the notification. I hope this helps. I figured this out by a lot of trial and error. Samsung support and my service provider support don't seem to be aware of this.

Best of luck.

What version are you running? I think the new version fixed this.

Finally.

Hi, the same happen to me when I swap my Samsung phone. It works perfect in by old S6 Edge +. But not in the new A8 Star. Seems the Samsung do not solve the problem in the new mobile release. Thanks to jjinal, the Samsung Focus can set and work in the same way. It seems to be the only alternative for the moment.
