Lots of possibilities. A 3rd party app that's causing instability, a failing battery, glitchy firmware, faulty hardware.

Which tablet do you have? Is it shutting off without warning? Give us more details.

Auto shutdown is the sign of loose battery connector. It's very easy to test by tapping hard on the back with your hand near the center, your tablet will shut down immediately.
