1080p video playback stutter

I'm curious for you guys to try this. I'm not talking about the playback of videos recorded by the G2, but rather how it plays back 1080p videos from YouTube. I'm finding there's a bit of stutter or dropped frames when playing back 1080p videos.

You can just search '1080p videos' on YouTube and you'll get multiple hits. Watch closely and tell me if you don't see a slight lack of smoothness at times. This generally means it's dropping a few frames here and there. It's especially evident when you see camera pans.

What surprises me is that this is the most powerful phone on the market, achieves amazing benchmarks and you'd think it shouldn't have a problem with this. My S3 plays the same videos back buttery smooth. Very weird.

I know it's not my wifi connection since I get very high speeds through it and as I said, the S3 on that same wifi has no issues.

Interesting. Are you sure you have no apps running in the background that might be eating away at the CPU/GPU? Any bloat that you can disable?

Yeah, I made sure that all apps were closed. Funny thing is, I just tried playing the same clips on my computer with an I7 and it too showed dropped frames. The weird thing is that the Galaxy S3 played it smoothly. The G2 plays movie trailers from sites like IMOB and such very smoothly in HD, but those are not generally in 1080p. That's why I'd like other owners to give this a shot and see what they get. Some might miss a few dropped frames, but others might be more sensitive to it and see it.

I wonder if the clips were being scaled down on the S3 but not on the G2 or windows machine. Since the S3 doesn't have a 1080 screen that could be it too.

^ Excellent point Haalcyon! I hadn't thought about that and I bet you're right. I was thinking if my computer is having issues playing this back buttery smooth, it's not reasonable for me to expect the phone to do the same. But until you mentioned it, I totally forgot the S3 was a 720p screen and that it was probably downrezzing the 1080p video which, all other things being equal, makes playback easier.
