16GB - that really sucks... Does it?

Thank you all for the responses!

I totally understand the concerns from developer's point of view. Although, having played quite a bit with ROMs on old HTC devices, I would rarely flash my phone away from PC, stable Internet connection etc...but I guess that while working with unstable ROM it is good to have a stable ROM as a backup to be able to make an emergency flash of the phone e.g. while away from home.

Have you noticed "I have been wondering", "what do you do", "What do you think", six other questions asked in the first thread etc.? Have I ever mentioned anything about how many games you *should* play on your phone? All I am asking is for explanation what YOU do with your phone, as I want to UNDERSTAND your concerns. But well...

You seem to be frustrated but I am afraid I will not respond in your tone. I will just address your issues one by one:
-> "some people cannot afford to buy a better camera" - please. I can buy a great camera and a phone for the price of e.g. the most popular iPhone. You don't need top quality Nikon for $10k to take better photos. People were buying cameras and mobile phones at the same time long before the smartphone hype.
-> "a separate mp3 player" - A good source mp3 player costs 26GBP (sansa clip+) - the top-quality open-source firmware for it (I have yet to come across a better firmware on any portable device) is free.
- a brand new gps system - now you are just being silly. I have never condemned using a phone as GPS (suggestion: re-reading my post). I have just noticed that a set of maps which you actually need does not take much space. And numerous people above seem to agree with that minor point.

Now, after you have attacked me ad personam, you decided to reply to my question. Thank you. It is a pity you didn't want to elaborate on how you fill 16GB tablet with one movie (given the other things you say). That could actually add something to our discourse.

Let my clarify, because I am afraid you will read once again what you want -> I am asking because I want to KNOW. Pure curiosity, willingness to expand knowledge and improve my understanding of your position to have a better grasp of the arguments made by various people. What I wrote is an EXAMPLE serving to SHOW you how I PERCEIVE the topic so that YOU can better ADDRESS IT. I don't know how I can express myself simpler.

I apologise TomsAndroid if you felt offended but I can guarantee you - it was never my intention, as that would be quite a waste of time which I value in my life highly.

My apologies for my outburst :-)
I just got a bit offended because I can't afford those little 26GBP MP3's or those cheap point-and-shoots.

BTW, I filled up my 16Gb without the movie, had to clear space, and then put on the 600mb movie. My biggest game sits well over 2 Gb's and a few others are near that size too.

One other point about space is that the 16Gb Nexus 7's start to slow up with less than a few gigs remaining. It's getting better with each update but hopefully you'll be able to use all available space on the N4 without side effects.

I don't use the cloud because there isn't always a data connection available.

Then with carriers charging per gb, cloud is something that should have been around and phased out now.

I like my music available,i listen to lots, take lots of photos, keep a few videos, and shoot some videos.

My galaxy s 3 32gb card is full. Looking to upgrade

I don't think that is necessarily true. I think eventually we'll see a return to unlimited data and the cloud will be a huge deal. Right now its not a viable option for everyone. but I think it will be the way thing are done someday. On the other hand i could also see them fitting more storage into small physical sizes and us have 1Tb phones that are thinner than current models.

Well then there is no reason why there can't be 32GB or 64GB internal storage for Android phones these days.

It seems like google is trying to force a behavior where we stream everything and save everything on the cloud. Since I'm used to those concepts, I'm ok with that. I use dropbox and box.com frequently, and google drive is a bonus. If I do want to download some movies to watch on a trip, I know I could probably fit 20 movies ripped at 700mb each. That's way more than enough.

I suppose dedicated gamers would like more space, but I'm not one. People taking a lot of videos will probably want to go with another option.

I could probably live with an 8gb version, but I'll get 16gb because my budget allows it.

Perhaps you would've gotten more reasoned debate without all the thinly veiled, sarcastic derision...?

... Now, I understand that many of you need to constantly carry over 4000 songs as you manage to listen to all of them during your daily commute...

... . I just really feel bad for those hundreds of people who seem to have over 10h daily commute making it paramount to carry at least 3-5 movies at once. And if we are talking about flying - gentlemen, if you really have to - take your 10'' device and stop looking silly.

... Why would you need to constantly carry 10-15 high-resolution games?

.. I yet have to see somebody going over millions of pages per hour.

... do yourself a favour and invest in something which your grandparents wouldn't be ashamed of.

... I understand that some of you are truck drivers who travel a lot. But why do most of the people want to constantly carry the maps of both Americas in high resolutions? I have been to some crazy parties but hey, I have never woken up on a different continent...

... Reading these fora I feel like most of the people have really bad data management habits. ... People do not really need, yet they do want to carry, their whole music collection for the sake of it - which usually means that it is either very unimpressive or in poor quality (even if taking dozens of GBs). The size of the phone storage acts mainly as ego-booster, a clearly comparable statistic, resembling 1990s when people would compare their RAM or HDD sizes which became a designation of their affluence and importance.

Discuss! :D
More like, "Defend!"

Capabilities of top-tier phones have improved over the last five years so that they can replace those other devices. You can understand why people who get accustomed to their phone being all these devices are disappointed when a new, desirable phone won't. It's a tradeoff : stick with a model with expandable memory, or switch to the Google model and compromise. Some can do that readily, others can't.

... I had a instance earlier this year when i needed beaucoup storage. Traveling to a track for a PDX, watching some ripped GAME OF THRONES at night, and wanted to view GoPro video from my runs during the day. I had to offload it to something. Didnt have any tablet then. My Amaze's hardware is well-suited to playing the video, but i needed storage. IN THAT CASE, the 32gb SDHC card was priceless.

That was one incident. I dont need those capabilities daily, but it was a boon not to have to carry 2-3 devices when one sufficed.

Yea even then.. he really wants to MAKE this a problem.

No i dont, you just dont like to hear it for whatever reason. All im saying is 16GB isnt enough. If it is for you, great. No need to bash anyone else who doesnt agree. You are making more of it than you need to. So i would like more space. I can get a class 10 32GB micro card for $18 at Frys so there is no reason why they cant include 32GB in this phone and keep the cost down.

Im up for an alternative but i dont know what he means by an app like that. Im not aware of one. There is one alternative i know of but it will cost me $10 a month extra.

You storage freaks are some friggin' Nazis man. Im not arguing about the storage, idc about the storage it is what it is. Im just making my point about the fact that i personally dont think the cloud is outdated or a waste of time or w/e.

Google Play music! You store your music in the cloud and it looks like any other music playing app. And im not bashing you or anyone else for needing more its just comeon you guys act like there no other options. just buy another phone. I love the way the iphone5 looks but love android equally. you dont see me out there(here or on other forums) making posts and petitions saying that they need to offer android on the iphone. Id love to have the GS3 unlocked on straittalk for $350 but again im not going around bashing it because i cant have it. so those phones arnt for me and the nexus 4 is. so in turn if the nexus 4 isnt for you get a phone that is

Yeah i have Google Music but it still takes data to use it and if im using it a hour most days, that would eat up my data pretty quick. Dont know why some cant understand that.

For some it's not only impractical, but obscenely expensive. This has been explained many times here.

I understand fine. you said "Because i do NOT prefer to stream my music. Even if we all got true unlimited data and that wasnt an issue, i would prefer not to stream but at least with true unlimtied data"

fairclough said "Even if it was in an app where it looked like a normal play list?"

then you said "Im up for an alternative but i dont know what he means by an app like that. Im not aware of one. There is one alternative i know of but it will cost me $10 a month extra."

maybe i misunderstood but as far as that conversation goes google play music is the answer.

I thought he meant something else i didnt know about. I have Google Music all set up but i hardly use it because it uses data.
If i had true unlimited data it would be a good answer,...and i can do that but getting unlimited data will cost me $10 more a month with T-Mobile. I just recently got my plan down to where im happy with it so i dont really want to start adding more things to get it back up. Im willing to pay a little more to get more space on a phone than i am to get more data. Thats costs a lot more in the long run.

Sooo...ill either sacrafice something or ill wait to see if they bring out a 32GB option like they did with the N7. I just dont see why they couldnt do that right away since memory is so cheap and 8GB is really almost useless these days. Didnt take long for Apple to get rid of the 4GB phone and now there is so much more you can do that takes up space.

If it dont work out for me, ill just keep my GS3 and install JB 4.2 with a custom ROM but id prefer not to. Id really like to get a Nexus phone since the price is so good.

Even the new Nokia 920 Windows phone off contract is going to be $449 which is good for what comes with it...and it has 32GB of memory but it wont come unlocked so i cant get that either.

I Have been suffering with my 16gb iPhone for so long that when I switched to the Gnote1 it was amazing to stretch my legs again. Now I am ditching the note and getting the nexus. It won't be a difficult transition. I only play a few puzzle games and one of two GBA ROMs. Music though that's the difficult part. Well not so much music as Audio books. I like to listen to Audiobooks but the major downfall is the size of the books. I have almost all of them converted to mp3 and uploaded to google music now, but my phone will never replace my 120 gb iPod classic. Pictures, you have never seen some of my pics I've taken on my iPhone. Granted Its no Nikon but they are some good shots. Do you carry your DSLR everywhere with you? Again the cloud saves us here too with automatic uploading to google+ or Dropbox clearing out memory is simple.

Overall I think people are trying to get away from having to carry Five devices to do all these jobs our phone can do but not quite as well. Someday yes we will have a phone with a holographic screen 5Tb storage GPS, DSLR, Boombox, and made of adamantium. Today this is what we have. If the deice doesn't have what you want you either need to reduce your standards or find something that can handle what you want. We need to step back and realize 20 years ago a cell phone wouldn't even fit in a pocket and a camera, forget it.

I get that. The reason I'm going to to strait talk is to save money so i don't blame you there. And even though i wouldn't buy it i hope they bring out a 32Gb model as well. But i also don't think the 8Gb is useless. I haven't yet decided which model im going with.there are alot of people who don't need anything more than 8Gb and having that and a low price is full of win.

I have the stock 16GB built in but purchased a micro 32GB card for a total of 48 GB right now this will serve me well
