2.2 Froyo Update - Report & Find Solutions to Issues Here (post #1 & 2 updated 8/8)

Luv-n-Android:

If I'm understanding correctly, you have 2 problems:

1) You do not get a "new message" notification when you receive an email with a .wav attachment.

2) You are not able to play .wav attachments

If the answer to #1 is yes, is it both audible notifications and/or the new message envelope in the notifications panel that you are referring to?

For #2, there's a solution listed in post #1, but it requires a 3rd party app.

Thanks for your response and time.

In the Exchange ActiveSync mailbox, I do not get a new message notification (audible or visual) when the message has a WAV attachment. I verified that my Exchange ActiveSync setting for attachments is set to include them, and that I'd like the entire email rather than the header, etc.

Being an Exchange user myself, that bug would totally irritate me.

The inability to play wav files issue has already been confirmed by multiple people. Can someone else confirm the notification issue when an email has wav attachments?

I'd also be curious if Touchdown does the same thing.

My list of EVO issues....

Hi Everyone,
First off, thanks for all the info, it is nice to know I am not in this alone! I updated my phone to 2.2 Froyo via the Sprint version found through the "system updates" option in Settings. I let it update all the categories: Firmware, profile, PRL and HTC software. I have never rooted. I have since Hard Reset (music was playing randomly, with no input from me or no apparent way to turn it off without shutting off the phone). I used My Backup Pro to backup/restore my data and apps ( it did not restore the 'settings' like I presumed it would, I had to go back into each program and recreate all the individual settings). I then only installed apps that are truly useful to me and from well known developers.

I have read EVERY page of this thread, and others, trying to find a 'magic' setting or check box to fix my phone. I understand some people are saying Sprint will be bringing a fix to this update, we shall see. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I am not happy with the update and my problems are as follows:

-heat coming from phone, especially when in the pocket (yes, it IS the phone, and no I am NOT happy to see you)

- at least 25 and up to 50% less battery life. I have unchecked every sync setting, or at least set them to long intervals between sync if need be. I was getting 10-12 hours (wireless whenever possible, a little internet, some texting, MP3 playing for 2- 3 hours, 10- 20 calls, no 4G, no GPS), now am lucky to get 6 or 8 with no MP3 use and less of everything else. I have tried all the charging techniques, and use two batteries in rotation (original, not aftermarket) with one in a charger while the other is in the phone.

-I use Handcent and, despite turning off every setting I can find in the HTC messaging program, I still get popups from the HTC version and not the Handcent, even though the Handcent icon/counter is in the upper notification area. Before, with 2.1, I could turn off the factory messaging and ONLY use Handcent. VERY FRUSTRATING.

-The browser scrolling is very laggy and not smooth at all, it seems 'jerky' if that makes sense. I like the stock browser, but now it is a pain and doesn't work nearly as well as it did pre-2.2.

-after using the Google search bar from the home screen, returning to the home screen takes 3-4 seconds and says it is "reloading", while a white screen is display. This NEVER happened before.

I am sure there are others I am forgetting, these are the most significant to date. Are there any ideas or fixes for what I am experiencing? Do I have to hard reset again? For such a landmark phone, and a first place finish in the race to get Froyo out to users, Sprint has flubbed this one really well. Any help out there is greatly appreciated.

Now that I've updated to 2.2 my home screen clock/weather widget no longer updates its location based on the network or gps. I've tried some suggestions I found around the web but none of them worked. Anyone have any suggestions?

Randy,
in the native message app you can turn the notifications off as I have done it and I use Handcent also.
Browser might need to go into settings and turn off flash and put it on demand.
I was having issues with battery life and I had forgotten to turn off 4G and it was eating my battery life and also the FB app was an issue. If you use FB update to latest version. 2,2 is really not a battery hog. It's an app or setting that you are missing.

Mine does the same thing. Keeps defaulting to Charlotte NC while I am in Greensboro, NC. For some reason .3 version did the same for a few days then got it right and .6 is doing the same thing to me. I think the first 2,1 update did the same for me also. It seems the phone has to figure out your home base then settle in.

When using Dolphin, my screen frequently flickers to black and then back to original screen. This may be a flash thing? I think it might flash once flash images, etc, are loaded and then go back.

Another issue is, whenever I click on a link to go to another page, it reloads my current page and then goes to the page I clicked on after.

Anyone have any of these same problems?

Anyone?

I updated to froyo by checking for update. Not rooted only have a handful of apps installed. No app killer got rid of that a long time ago. Here are a few questions and I did try to read most pages but found hardly any on one of my biggest complaint... any video previously or newly recorded when played back is choppy when before the update they played smooth. I was actually embarassed when I showed a video to my sister. And yes I tried to play the video 2 times and it played smooth the 2nd time...until I closed the gallery and reopened the video then it was choppy again. Also I have noticed the scrolling in browser seems slow as someone elso stated. Then I took it in to a sprint store and talked to them about the problems. He said they have an in store update but I would have to leave my phone for about 2 hrs. I havent seen any posts where anyone said sprint stores have an update so I was very leary of letting them mess with my phone. Anyone else heard of this fix. And it wasnt supposed to be for the .3 fix.

no 2.2 update for me yet why?

how come every time i try to update thru the system update / htc software update all my phone does is search search and not find a update. please help

Re: 2.2 Froyo Update - Report & Find Solutions to Issues Here (post #1 & 2 updated

At the moment all three of my configured accounts seem to be pushing. I know Google knows about the problem and I absolutely believe this is on their end, not our phones, from everything I have read. Anyone not having the problem either doesn't have Froyo or doesn't have multiple accounts ...... correct me if I'm wrong!

My print rep told me that they know there are issues with the update and they are trying to patch them before rolling it out to the rest of the country. You know that the people that read these threads are the people that don't mind being the test subjects, as long as we have the latest and greatest

Randy: my first guess is that your restoring an app that isn't compatible with Froyo, and it's pounding your CPU like crazy, which in turn is generating excess heat. I would skip the restore and start fresh.

EVO problem update...

Thanks to all for your quick responses.

I suspected the new Facebook might be a culprit, so I uninstalled the "updated" version, and things seem somewhat better. The phone is not nearly as warm, and the battery discharge rate seems lower, though it has only been a few hours since I enacted this change. I also set the browser to use plug-ins (Flash?) on demand only and it seems smoother as well.

I hope Sprint does push out an "updated update" soon. I do love the technology we all have become used to, but these Android devices sure do need alot of user input to get in 'tune'. I guess that's the price of an open system, kinda like Capitolism I suppose! It may not be perfect, but show me a better system. As a builder of custom cars and hot rods, I know well that nothing works perfectly out of the box, but we sure hope it does.

I will continue to monitor my phone's characteristics. Maybe I will do one more hard reset - just to see what happens.

Thanks again to everyone. Take care.

lagging with the keyboard. For example, when i text somebody in the landscape made then press the home key. Let?s say im going to the internet the page pops up in landscape then goes to vertical when i had it in vertical to start. It seem like when i use the phone with the landscape keyboard then exit and when i go to the text message, internet, anything that can be in landscape it start up in the landscape mode even though im holding it vertically. I started having this problem when i get the 8/3 update

Anyone seeing the same problem I am having with the stock music player? All songs show unknown artist and all songs have the same album art. I deleted all songs and reloaded, same issue.

Videos that are recoreded in 720 p are choppy when played back for the first time..if you pet the video finish and then you replay it it plays smooth...also if you go to the galler again after leaving it for a while the video plays choppy again..

Mine plays choppy all the time, even if I go back and play it again. This is terrible and from what I am reading about this, there doesn't seem to be anything you can do to fix it!

The m4v was native in 2.1, not in 2.2.
I am able to view m4v in 3rd party app. wish it was still native, could that be related to the WAV files also not being native in 2.2?

EVO saga continues....

Thanks for all the input, it is refreshing to have such quick responses from a forum.

So, after my last post, I uninstalled the Facebook widget (?) and my heat buildup/battery drain seemed to get much better. I had the updated 1.3.1 version, which I think 'allegedly' fixed the battery drain, but I uninstalled anyway, just to see what happens. I went all day yesterday (15 hours or so, MP3, though) and was pleased. I can live without the immediate access to facebook if the phone actually works.

Apparently, I cannot live without it, as I did a power off/on this morning (old habit from my touch pro 2 days) and the Facebook app/widget reinstalled itself with no input from me. When I looked at the screen, it had just installed itself and there it was on the homescreen again. Huh?! Is this some native application, and if so, why did it let me uninstall it? It shows to be the 1.3.1 version, again, so I am baffled. Ideas? I am going to let it run today and see if the battery heat/drain is back.

Also, after backing out of a Google search or an online session originating from a Google search, I get a Vista-like 'turning circle' for about 5 second and a 'loading' message on the screen. I NEVER had that before my 2.2 upgrade (and subsequent hard reset).

I said I was going to hard reset again, but after yesterday's apparent success (w/o facebook), I didn't think it necessary. I guess it is? Help?

Found a specific issue in the OFFICIAL Froyo update? Listed below is an extensive list of problems being reported. Feel free to report others in this thread. If it's determined to be a common problem, I will update this post accordingly. If solutions are found, I will also provide information here.

  • Front-facing camera bug: When you uncheck mirror mode, it shows the image upside-down. Also, as soon as you take a picture, the screen goes a lot darker on the front-facing cam and the pictures all show up that way - WAY darker than they should be.

Reporting back on this issue. My SECOND factory reset solved the dark picture problem for me. The mirror mode unchecked is still showing images upside down in portrait orientation.
