2.2 update failing. Anyone else?

Hi new to forums. Vzm reps told me that about 10,000 of Fascinates phones are unable to to update to 2.2. and they have a list of the bad serial numbers (maybe MEID no), which was provided by Samsung. Thier only solution was to provided a refurish phone. I really don't see that as a solution when your issue is on Samsung and Vzw end.

10,000 huh! well from where i am setting with the sc292v i dont see any need in me trying to get something i already have,, unless theres more bells n whistles in the official release or if someone good comes along and starts upgrading the original froyo 2.2 it appears i am better off right where i am..
besides ,being as lucky as i am my number is probably one of the 10,000.

be nice if we had that list...

Yeah that would be pretty good to have a list to post in the forums here, that could give a little clearance to the issues a lot of members have been having. It'd be a step in the right direction for them, because if they are going to need a new phone then I'm sure they may want to do that asap!

Question to all whom are getting or trying to get official froyo 2.2 ____????????????
does Verizon still have its junk mixed in the update. is search "Google"?
where else have you found Verizon ie: location/latitude/GPS ???

Yes verizon has it's bloatware in the official OTA update.

Yes google search is incorporated in the update, but is not the default search mapped to the search button at the bottom of the phone. (And cannot be switched to default either) but nonetheless google search/voice search is now usable on the phone via app/widget (updates can be installed via market)

As for nav, latitude etc. you will still have to download google maps from the market otherwise vznavigator is still preloaded on the phone.

Switching is solely left to each individual's personal preferance. If you're not satisfied with the update there are still tons of ROM's etc from various developers available to use an will be new ones on the way (keep eyes on forums for updates)

Hope this information will help :)

So ... I had none of those stock apps removed, was on stock EA28 2.1 and still had that issue. I had VZW send me a replacement Fascinate today. In 20 minutes I was on 2.2 on the replacement phone.

I am a happy camper now. Loving Froyo so far :)

Congrats! Yeah it very well might be what was said in this thread earlier... There may just be some Fascinates with a bad serial or meid # (whatever may be causing the issue) that is not allowing the phones to properly update via OTA. I'm still investigating the matter to find something 100% official to verify the fact. But it is definitely plausible. If a replacement phone is correcting the issue, it can't hurt to contact vzw and have your phone replaced in order to clear up the problems occuring. That is if none of the methods found in these forums has helped thus far!

Question!

i was attempting to update a friend's Fascinate (which is bone stock 2.1 EA28), but the download wouldn't progress

i did also notice that the app killer programme was also running in the background. Would this be something that could hinder the update?

Your thoughts are much appreciated!

I got my Pound Puppy...er... I mean, Refurb Phone, 24 hours later exactly, did a Factory Reset right out of the box finally upgrade to 2.2 and then Factory Reset again. Of course I had to re-install had everything from my original phone had which at first was a PITA but after about 20 minutes I realized that I had actually a lot of junk that I really didn't use anymore or need so in the end it all worked out for the best and I am finally enjoying 2.2. But that will be my last Samsung when it comes time for a new phone.

I guess mine was one of the Infamouse 10,000 !

Download failing

My download keeps failing, I've tried three times now.

Maybe it just has something to do with my service? All I know is that I'm getting frustrated...

If I'm getting the IP_PREVIOUS_UPDATES_FAILED message is there any way to fix it without wiping my phone? I don't really want to spend hours setting it all up again.

I called Verizon and they said I needed to contact Samsung. Samsung wanted to hard reset my phone so I bailed. The Samsung guy said the 2.2 update would wipe my phone anyway. Is that true?

Replacement fascinate - fixed no update to froyo

I live in NE Ohio and my fascinate shows no update when I manually check via SETTINGS - ABOUT PHONE - SYSTEM UPDATES = CHECK NOW.
My phone is fully stock. Are the updates not made available to all users yet? Do I have to visit my local Verizon store for the update?

Has anyone else not yet had access to the OTA update?

UPDATE:
I just returned from the Verizon (company) store. They attempted the OTA update with no success. Then they called their support people and had my ESDN ( I think that is what they were checking) checked against the list of Fascinates that they know will not take the update, mine was not on the list. They did say that there were thousands of Fascinates that were on the list. The employee that was working on my phone did the manual check for the update on his personal Fascinate and it immediately gave him the option to update.

Their suggestion was to wait a week to see if the update would be rolled out to my phone and then write up a support ticket for a replacement phone. They had no other Fascinate owners complaining about not getting access to the update. They did not have a copy of the update in their computer to manually install the update.

I have had quite a few incoming calls over the last few weeks that I could not answer because the phone would not unlock via the puzzle piece. The phone would not respond to any buttons except powering down. Since I had that problem along with no update being offered OTA, they wrote up a support ticket now and are replacing my phone.

3 days later....
I received the replacement Fascinate this morning. It looks mint. If it is a refurbished phone, there is no way to tell it is not a new phone. I checked immediately before transferring the battery from the old phone to the new and there was NO 2.2 update available on the old phone. As soon as I activated the new phone, the update notice to froyo 2-2 popped up. The download tool about 15 minutes with one bar signal strength and then the update took about 5 minutes with no problems.

This tells me that my bone stock 4 month old Fascinate would not update to froyo because of a problem with the phone and not because the update was not yet rolled out to my number as the replacement immediately did update to froyo.

If you have a fascinate that just blinks when you do the manual CHECK FOR UPDATE, you might want to try to get a replacement phone.

I have the same problem but my phone is rooted. Is there anyway to unroot? I did a factory reset but, it didn't help any. Phone was still rooted.

superclean 2.9

i too was having the problem with the froyo 2.2 update not going through. called vzw no help they were gonna get samsung on the phone with us. i said the hell with it & flashed the superclean 2.9. couldnt be happier. its way cooler than stock + NO BING!!!

My Fascinate is rooted, and was de-BING'D/debloated, but when the update prior to the froyo update kept failing I went in and restored it to stock to do both the last OTA update and the froyo update. The first OTA update went through ok after I restored everything back to stock (still rooted, but otherwise stock), however, I've probably tried 5 or 6 times to get the froyo update to go through, all of which have been unsuccessful. I'd prefer to go with the official Verizon update, because I've been happy the phone in a near stock form (Rooted, de-BING'd & de-bloated), so I'd like to keep it that way. I've been mulling over using Odin and loading the D101 ROM if that is the stock froyo ROM. Any suggestions?

*UPDATE* - Upon further inspection I forgot to remove .old from 2 seemingly insignificant pieces of VZW bloatware...... Re-bloated(?) and downloading again....... Re-Bloated is such an ugly word/state of being...... can't wait to de-bloat/de-BING again if this works

*UPDATE* - SUCCESS!!!! FINALLY!!!! Now to try to root and debloat...... AGAIN. Is it safe to assume that the One Click Root method will no longer work after doing the Froyo update?

Help Fascinate Guru's

I have a Fascinate running old software, tried to update the new software, downloaded 100%, phone restarted but then said software failed to upload. After 3 hours on the phone with the Verizon tech support said they couldn't help me
So I got a Droid X - factory reset the Fascinate & now all I see is a black screen with "Samsung"
I can't even turn the phone off - have to take battery out

I want to get this back to factory condition so I can sell it

Any help/advice is appreciated

The phone is not active

Selling????????? I'm looking. Need a second Fascinate to make the ODIN packages without having to constantly tear mine down.

No - sry guys. I bought an X off Craigslist - swapped ESN #'s then I factory reset the Fascinate

Not rooted - everything was stock

I've been unsuccessful in updating to 2.2 on my non-rooted Fascinate. Yesterday I did a hard reset and I still got the dreaded "UPDATE FAILED or INCOMPLETE, reason: IP_PREVIOUS_UPDATE_FAILED"

Last night I went to the Verizon store, and they insisted that I had to wait for the update to be pushed to my phone for it to be successful. I pointed out to them that many forum users have successfully updated without the push, but they stuck to their story. So I asked for them to put that in writing, and you can guess what their response was. Exactly.
They bumped me to "tier 2" support, and then to Samsung support, who left me on hold for 38 minutes before I had to bail, as the store was now closed. Oy!

So now I have a factory reset phone without 2.2 and I am not happy. You all know the pain it is to re-customize your phone. If anyone has a suggestion/solution, great. But even if not, it is very therapeutic to share my frustration, knowing many of you will sympathize.
