20 watt and 30 watt chargers seem to charge at the same speed

I have a 20-watt charging cube and I just bought a 30 watt one from Anker. They both seem to charge at the same rate based on the estimated time to complete the charge and via a battery app that reports the rate. I tested at around 60% battery left then again at 87% left, this time using the cable that came with the phone. There's no difference.

I don't have the battery/charger knowledge to address this. Does anyone know what's going on? The Pixel 6 is supposed to benefit from 30 watt charging, right?

This is the 30 watt one I just bought: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07W3VTKN2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

Thanks, everyone!

I just skimmed the listing but I didn't see any mention of that charger being PPS. I believe you need a charger that supports PPS to take full advantage

Anker 30w ...They told me it is compatible for fast charging speeds for the 6Pro. As mentioned before, it charges the same as the Anker 18w.

You won't see any difference above 60% because fast charging operates on a curve. By the time it gets to 60% the phone will already be drawing less than 20W from a 30W charger.

And that's assuming the charger and phone have a compatible profile.

Thanks... I was hoping that was it so I went and tried the charger I use to "superfast charge" my Galaxy devices which is listed as having PPS, I got the same charging speed and time on the Pixel 6 Pro (around 2300 mA with Ampere). Do you think it only works with Google's charger?

It does say it's charging rapidly in all of these cases.

Ah. I'll try again when the battery is more depleted. Trying to decide if I should keep the new Anker charger. Thanks all!

As fuzzy mentioned. I'd definitely try with a more depleted battery and see what the results are.

I have a PPS car charger coming tomorrow. I'm hoping to see better results

Bingo. Li-ion charging protocol dictates that the charge rate slows as the battery fills. Think of it like filling a bucket with a fire hose. Keep going at full pressure, it'll spill water once near the top as it splashes over. Turn the fire hose down to a stream, and you can fill right to the brim.

I'll try all three later on and report back. (20W, 30W, 65W PPS).

I am by no means a power user and normally get through a whole day. Until I got the Pixel 5. Worse battery ever and i have to charge 2 or so times a day. Having said that I think i will stay with my current google charger (from Pixel 5) I dont think I am going to spring for a new charger as i hope the larger battery will last me all day.

My P5 still has great battery

Here's the report... Starting at 26% battery, which caused the phone to charge faster in general.

Both the 20 watt and 30 watt chargers charge at the same rate, around 3700 mA
The PPS charger that I used with my Samsung charges much faster at around 4600 mA.

So, you guys are right about PPS (not that I doubted you, just wanted to report the findings.)
I'll have to return this Anker charger. I love how flat it is but it doesn't it has no speed advantage.

Here a comparison between my 24w RavPower PD car charger and the new 46w PPS charger I picked up

How can they claim a minimum amperage rating? Current isn't pushed, it's drawn by the circuit...
That shows the minimum and maximum pulled during that charging session, not the capabilities of the phone or charger.

Ampere doesn't seem like a very good way of measuring charge rate, given that it doesn't track input voltage.
