22 percent of Android users willing to dump their handset for iPhone 5

Pretty sure those numbers are inflated. They need to have the responsibility of conducting a thorough survey, or at least getting an accurate sample size before saying something like this. My Brother in Law just dumped the iPhone for the Note, my other Bro-in-law dumped it for the S2 a few months back, my father in law wants to upgrade from the 4s to Android because of the screen size, and my sister in law is also dumping her iPhone for an S3 when her upgrade comes due. It swings both ways.

Why get accurate data when you can walk into an Apple store and get easy answers?

I thought about it if the iPhone got a bigger screen, but listening to my girlfriend complain about not being able to customize it as much as i can customize my razr. I may get an ipad just so i can have those other apps that are not on Android. But i would have to find a really good use for it before i buy one.

Come on now, I wouldn't go that far. They can't be that bad if some of thier ideas are implemented in other products.

GS3

Do you realize many, if not most, of Apple's inventions were recycled ideas?!

Funny I've jumped off the other way after getting my wife the S3. I'm watching all the Android news in anticipation of dumping my iPhone 4 next year. My wife also likes android now and my 2 brothers in law are also converts after playing with their sisters phone.

My dad got one and they're useless unless you plan on paying big bucks for apps. I'm talking upwards of 6 bucks per app! Not to mention they are so limited on what you can do, no torrents, no apps from other than the store which is over priced due to Apple taking a 70 percent cut of the devs profits and about the only customizing you can do is change the background! They should change the name to overpriced iCrap.

yes and no. if you do things the way apple wants you to do them, then everything works well. once you go off the yellow brick road, then all goes to hell. I was trying to simply take songs and pictures off my wife's old iPhone to new one...it was practically impossible (without using 3rd party software). on my rezound, pull the microsd card, pop it in the new one, done.

The one thing that annoys me to no end is that it has no back and no menu button. on different apps, the back and menu buttons are in different locations. and you can't tab to other apps easily.

That is a very accurate assessment IMO. My example....I used Win Mo first, then Android, then an iPhone 4. With Win Mo and Android...me and my kids mother was used to Blue Tooth being in Wireless n Networks. On the iPhone....its in General. After awhile trying to find it...I went online to find it and my kids mother was downloading Blue tooth apps from the app store.

Me and her picked up Android alot easier and faster than the iPhone. Thats another thing I dont believe anymore....that the iPhone is so easy to use.

Apple does not take 70% per paid app.

the apple app store commission is 30%. however, Champion1229 mentioned "profit", which counts the cost of developing the app, any software or hardware the dev had to buy, the time spent developing the app, etc.

Or he could have just flipped flop the 70/30 split.

Not sure how you'd get to that 70% number by including the price of Apple equipment and the yearly iOS development subscription.

I read somewhere a few months ago that Apple takes 70% and the developer gets 30% while on Android its the opposite, the Developer keeps 70% while Google takes only 30%. Not sure if what i read was 100% true but like what Dpham said, in order to develop for Apple you HAVE to have a Mac based computer and you MUST pay the $100 fee just to get the SDK and test the app while on Android you can use just about any computer that meets minimum specs and its free to code, test and only I believe $25 or $15 to publish. Thats only a fraction of the $2000+ you would spend on a Mac computer, the $100 developer fee and then the iOS devices you have to buy to test on!

Again. You're wrong about the 70/30 split. Apple and Google take the same for paid apps. Google does take less from in-app purchases however.

That said, you don't need the latest and greatest Mac hardware to code for iOS, making that associated cost irrelevant.

And you'll probably purchase less test hardware if you code for iOS vs. Android.

I'd call it even but if you need more reasons to hate Apple, go right ahead.

Again, I said I wasn't 100% sure because it was something i read a while back and I'm starting to think it wasn't even correct then .Yes I hate Apple's mobile department (iOS) but I love their computers (typing this on 2011 MacBook Pro). I don't really have to look for reasons to hate iOS, they're kinda bluntly obvious lol

I would imagine most of that 22% in the survey are unhappy with their less-than-stellar single-core Android phones that are still running Froyo or Gingerbread. Those on high-end dual-core devices with official ICS support probably have a much different opinion.

Most of my friends who switched to the iPhone and now brag about it being the holy grail of smartphones switched over from junky, slow Androids with low-res screens running Froyo.

What's really hurting Android in this regard is that unless you buy a Nexus device, you're at the mercy of your carrier for software updates (unless you root and flash a custom ROM...and the majority of users are afraid to do that). iPhones have the advantage of a closed eco system, where Apple has complete control over the hardware and software, and therefore their devices see more official software updates than most Androids do.

I'm really not convinced the iPhone 5 will sway me away from the unlocked Galaxy Nexus I just ordered. I'm so used to Google Apps (especially the tight integration of Google Voice), it would be a rough change for me at this point anyway.

Well as much as I like android, I am switching, back again. I have had many phones from the Epic to the Evo, to the Evo 4g Lte and now Galaxy S3. As much fun as they phones are, I am not going to hack it. I am not going run roms on it. Some things I will miss is sd card. You want more room...pop in a bigger sd card. But what I don't get is, you can't save to the sd card. It's great for music and pics and that nature. Another thing I don't get is why Android doesn't have audio over usb. You plug in an iphone or ipod and it charges and plays audio with only 1 cable. In my car I would have 1 cable to charge and another for audio. I will miss some of the Google apps, we have an old HTC Hero that I am using until the iPhone 5 comes out that I can use the aps for.

I do appreciate all the time I had and Android will always be fun, but there is a ton more of apps that are on the app store and it just seems to work. Now I gotta fix my signature.

Enjoy your iPhone 5. I'll likely not be switching back to an iDevice. We'll see tomorrow but my 4 does fine for what I use it for (to play Rock Band & a handful of other exclusives) but overall it cannot be my daily driver - it just simply doesn't cut it for me compared to my GNex.

Also, at a bit over 1,500$ I've got more than 3X's the amount invested in the Android ecosystem compared to Apple's so it makes it tough to justify switching.

What do you mean you can't save to the sdcard? If you use download all files from the play store you sure can.

On my note running ics I can save to SD card using app 2 sd. I will also be looking at the iPhone 5. If it has a 4.3 screen I will be really looking at one. It would be between iPhone 5, note 2, and if there is a nexus device announced soon I'll take a hard look at that.

App2SD doesn't run apps off of the SD card though. It has to move the app back and forth.
