so just to clarify one more time because i am quite confused at this point

i have a phoenix 505
running gingerbread, i cant use wifi if I upgrade to this ICS 4.0. if i cant use wifi forget it , this is a simcard less phone, wifi is the bread and butter of getting A) free gmail calls, B) internet, C) metro porn

it depends wat kernel you have, if u have jobans .35 then youll have to wait a second and it will light up and with the p505 kernel with baseband fix there will be a blackscreen and youll have to touch the slider to answer or discard in order to wake up screen

Yes. It all works great. And yeah, there is black screen but I just changed some of the lock screen settings and now its not a problem.

i just rooted my thrive,seems to have gone well, guess i was nervous for nothing. now, the whole reason i did this was to get cm7, but now that 7.2 has been confirmed to work, i might try it. still a little nervous,and a whole lot inexperienced at thisstuff. could you tell us how you configured the settings to help the black screen thing? and, do i have to mess with kernals or just loaad the link posted above? thanx.

I was in ur same position not too long ago. I didn't start flashing roms/kernels until two days ago. For the black screen, you can use a live wallpaper or if you want a static wallpaper, go to lockscreen settings and check the box that says unlock phone with menu key and disable animations. To instal the rom I:installed clockworkmod, BACKED UP MY ROM, downloaded the p505 stock kernal, and the rom in the link and put them on my SD card. Then I booted into recovery, cleared data from there, then installed the rom and kernel. Then rebooted. Sorry if I am not clear enough. I'm a newbie.

Unlock with menu key should be under cyanogenmod settings once you flash the rom and get it all working. Oh and just a heads up, the black screen fix doesn't always work with a static wallpaper so play around with the settings. It should always work with a live wallpaper. Good luck and you're welcome. i am either really stupid or this is a really buggy piece of crap, i am using a lg phoenix guys

i got clockwork mod installed.
had wifi on to get updates..

now can anyone explain wtf is going on with this program??? it does NOT backup the rom file, i tried twice, it shows NOTHING in the backup and restore section inside the APP.l

it also fails miserably to even install the recovery. it just reboots and hangs i have to literally power off nad back on.

so either this trick does not work on lg phoenix phones, or that oath guy on youtube was a miracle worker, or C) he was using some other method that isnt making sense to me. oh my phone is rooted as well.

im not a leet mobile hacker, this rom stuff is very frustrating and confusing, even though all the instructions are soo straightfoward any noob should be able to figure this out. however 15 years of pc experience is nto helping me one bit.
im also not understanding what this cyanogen mod thing is?? is this for other kinds of phones or is this used in conjuction with the rom flashing lol??

i just want to get that bloody ICS anrdoid 4.03 on my lg phoenix lol... i really cant understand why this process is soo confusing.

any info or a solution for this please and thank you. also0 being ignored is annoying. and yes I HAVE TRIED THE SEARCH GOOGLE FUNCTION

First off check your version on the ROM Manger to see if its the latest and greatest. If its the newest you're screwed, get rid of that version and find an older one I think v4.8.0.7 is that last one that works with our phones on froyo, if you have flashed up to gingerbread and are now using the new baseband you may beable to use the newer version. I am running a pheonix on the old baseband (froyo version) and anytime i try to install ROM Manager from the market I get an error and it never updates. If you cant get CWM installed via the ROM Manager then you will need to install it using the command line... complicated but not hard. But what ever you do for the love of god DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER FOR ANYTHING BUT INSTALLING CWM IT WILL SOFT BRICK THE PHONE.

As far as Cyanogen Mod this is the flavor of rom that you can flash to it comes in different OS version think of it as Ubuntu or Fedora linux for a PC they are different flavors of the same OS and each comes in a different version numbers the same is with the Cyanogen ROM you can get a build that uses froyo (CM6) or gingerbread (CM7) or ICS (CM9).

and like i like somehow fluked this entire thing and somehow by a god miracle actually got cyanogen mod 7.20 rc working but you wont get proper colors until u apply another strange file which is the p505 old baseband rom

then magically it rebooted out of recovery and bam I GOT ANDROID 2.37 ON MY OLD GINGERBREAD PHONEIX.
well after racking my brain for hours , i managed to somehow get cyanogen mod loaded!! WTF...

i managed to get colors working using old baseband stock kernel of p505

then i got another evil bug, the screen that wakes only 50% of the time lol

i tried messing with disabling animations, live wallpapers, it still happens occasionally. kinda scary is there a permanent fix to this.

amazning. also somehow i got past the werid blackscreen bug. i guess its just a random thing...

** can i flash to cyanogen mod 9 since theres a huge thread on that and they seem to list those probs as fixed. mmm i wonder
