$49 for Photon vs. $99 Epic Touch

The Photon is trash as well. Get an EVO 4G or 3D.

ORLY?

Except for the occasional reboot issue, every Photon I've serviced has been fixable via soft update or user error. The same cannot be said for the 3D. Touchscreen failures, complete software failure (to the point that even an adb force flash can't fix it), defective batteries, the trim around the screen coming off and DOA. The only advantages the 3D has over the Photon is 3D and a prettier screen. Evo's, I never really had many issues with mine but I see 5-10 Evo's a week with factory defective charge ports and unrepairable restart issues. Both the Evo and 3D are a service centers best friend from an income standpoint.

What does the Evo or 3D do better than the Photon, and please don't say +9999 copycat vanilla ROMs?

The Epic touch has some awesome hardware, but I can't recommend anyone get it. The E4GT has been out for about a month and they haven't received one update for it when there are critical issues/reception issues on the E4GT. Every smartphone will have bugs, but Samsung takes its sweet time fixing them or just ignoring them completely (like in the epic 4g). I personally can't deal with it.

And the photon gets much more updates! It has received 3 updates. That's an update every three weeks. They also added support for lapdocks onto the photon!! The sgs2 is a great phone, but over time because the lack of updates it loses its glitter. Photon now has google video chat. Who knows when the sgs2 will get it, and ics, who knows when the sgs2 will get it. Look at the epic, it is still waiting for gingerbread, and they are actually developing it!!

I'm not saying the Touch is better, because I wish I got better signal strength on mine for sure. But I can use google video chat and could since day one.

That goes back to the difference between the 2 phones.
The Touch is an Entertainment device.
It is marketed as such
It can make calls if you are in a strong signal area
But call signal strength is not what you buy this phone for.
All the video, gaming and entertainment things are great on this phone and thats why you buy it

The Photon on the other hand while being so so as an Entertainment device.
Excels at being a Business PHONE
It not only has global use, as in can be used anyplace in the world.
It provides great reception of not only voice but 4G with a minimal signal.
This phone can make and receive calls in areas where other phones cant do anything.
In keeping with the business part
The Photon comes with a full business suite and not a limited use version.
The security encryption is great
The ability to remotely erase the phone and or sd card is also a blessing

The various docking stations makes carrying a laptop or tablet unnecessary

Both are great phones but you have to pick the right tool for the right job

mediocre wifi, though.

the business sure being docs to go?

How can I use the encryption and set up remote erasure, by the way? Not sure I want them, but it's something to consider.

The Wifi got fixed in the last update. You may want to go top the Motorola site direct for more info

My Photon came with Quick Office which includes

Quickword: Create and edit Microsoft Word?
documents.
Quicksheet: Create and edit Microsoft Excel?
spreadsheets.
Quickpoint: Create and edit Microsoft PowerPoint?
presentations.
QuickPDF: View Adobe Acrobat? PDF files.

I verified that Quick Office works before I left the Sprint store.

There are other business tools also
The wireless keyboard is very nice
The Laptop dock keeps you from having to carry around a laptop

To set up the security so you can do a remote wipe of your phone you have to have a FREE account for you phone with Motorola.
It is there portal service
You can do a remote wipe of the phone and or Sd card, if the phone is lost or stolen
You can also set up the phone to do and automatic wipe if somebody tries to get into the phone using the wrong password. You decide how many tries someone gets before it does the automatic wipe

There are also videos on the motorola site to walk you through a lot of things

My wifi is still weak. It's weaker than my husband's laptop, for sure, and I think it's weaker than my Pre, although I haven't directly compared the two since the last update.

I do have some office-package. It's handy to look at other people's stuff. I don't need more than that, but it's nice to know you get functionality from the editor.

I'll have to look into the remote wipe thing. To be honest, I'm not certain I want to implement that, as I am more worried about accidentally losing my stuff than about someone else getting hold of it. I don't use the gadget for business. Identity theft is the biggest risk, I guess.

I'll take look at the link you provided when I have a chance, thanks.
