5.0.1 for Nexus 6?

Anyone who is complaining about the update fleeing them really needs to learn how to flash factory images or sideload OTAs. It's like buying a WRX sTi and asking for an automatic transmission. Should you have to learn? Probably not. Should you anyways? Yes.

Premium 1 ---- I understand. On one hand, I'm appalled by how Google has released the N6 and the ridiculous idea of checking Google's site every minute to see if anything is available for sale yet. It is quite irritating, and I've stated elsewhere that the ongoing wait without a hint from Google when an adequate supply will be available, plus various concerns popping up about the N6 could weaken my resolve to go ahead and get one.

OTOH, I'm sort of relieved that I can sit back and wait to see if problems are resolved. I know not everyone is having this issue, but I'd like to know if I got one with the issue it could be fixed or, better yet, that they have figured out the problem and it's not likely to occur again.

I'm just waiting for the 5.0.1 OTA. I haven't had an issues, so no need for me to rush it in.

I've had mine since November 17th and had not noticed any random shutoffs or reboots until Monday, Dec 8th.

Since then, I have had either a reboot or random shutdown nearly each day since.

I solved my rebooting problem by not holding it by the power button.

That almost would have been funny if a stock Nexus 6 had a restart option when holding the power button. Since it does not, this fails to make it past open mic night material.

I walked into sprint grabbed one 2 weeks ago, have not had any issues that you are reading about, also got the ota yesterday and it installed and rebooted fine, still, no issues, this phone is a beast!

I've had mine a month without a single random reboot... My phone is current clocking 340+ straight hours up/on.... It seems to be isolated to a small % of devices out there.... but if it's only 2% of the devices made those 2% will be ten times more vocal than the 98% without a single problem....

Only way I could see them pulling this OTA to tweak something to fix the Random reboot is if it's isolated to people in a certain region on a certain carrier trying to connect to a certain band.... Maybe they've isolated what the problem is and will adjust the OTA to help those people without affecting the 98% who don't have a problem at all.........

Maybe if we were jumping from 4.4.4 to 5.0... but going from 5.0 to 5.0.1 isn't worth side loading... Specially if you have no issues or problems with your device....... I'd be really upset if I updated to 5.0.1 and all of a sudden I now have random rebooting issues.... lol..... As long as I am happy with how my device is preforming and I can't see any major advantage to side loading I'll just wait on the OTA..... if it's a major upgrade or I am having issues I'll boot up the computer and side load the update...

Um, again. No. just no. The reason to won Android, PERIOD, is to tinker with it. THE selling point for a Nexus device IS the timely upgrades, and ALL of them.

Google is really sucking right now.

Actually if you're holding it by the power button without realizing it, as many are, it's easy to pressure it enough to power it off and back on.

How so? it's only a small incremental upgrade to 5.0.1 and 5.0 is only what a month old now? If you don't have any issue with your device and it does everything you want it to do why the rush on a small incremental update??? It's not a major release just a very small minor tweak to the already large leap to 5.0..... They just put out the factory image what two days ago????

If you are having major issues with your device I don't know how much this update is going to improve those problems since a lot of us have no issues with our device... I still think (as far as updating goes) Google does a pretty good job... I'd rather wait a few extra days or couple weeks for a finished product than a rushed update that isn't ready yet..... Too many people are just impatient....

Nexus software updates have always been staged rollouts that can take up to a couple weeks. That hasn't changed in the past few years. If you do want an update sooner, there is a way to do it manually.

Also, not all Nexus devices got the incremental update all at once. The 5.0.1 update for each device had different fixes as some things were device specific. The more devices, the more time it takes to prepare and support.

I think that is an over generalization. While I'm sure that is true of many (possibly most Nexus fans, given the angst every time a new version of Android OS is released and someone doesn't have it yet). Not everyone feels that way, though.

For me, I don't necessarily view the early upgrades as a positive. I've watched as others receive their OTA updates and then proceed to list all the things that don't work properly after the update. Yes, Google eventually seems to resolve those (or people discover an app that is misbehaving), and most people calm down and enjoy their phones again. But if I can wait until those little blips are resolved, I'm happy.

So why am I drawn to a Nexus phone? Because I like to start with as clean a slate as possible and go from there.

(full disclosure: I still don't have the phone, so I am not actually patiently waiting for the OTA update---I'm just sitting back and watching everyone else)

So you complain about not being able to update when an easy solution that takes 10-15 minutes at best is available to you? Okay. If this happened without an OTA package or factory images available, I'd be right here voicing my displeasure.

For me sideloading etc seems to be a pain. My 5 year old Mac isn't 64 bit. Android sdk want to see a different Java than I have to run. Even though I have latest downloaded. I don't have a few hours to screw around for an incremental change. The ota did not complete for some reason, that I wonder about. Have not experienced any reboots slow downs or issues. Not a big enough deal to me. Like the 6 for what it is vs the note 2,3,and 4,s I have used.

I don't know. I'm of the mindset that refusing to sideload/flash when you've got a Nexus is like having a Ferrari, but refusing to push it past 60mph. You shouldn't have to do it all the time, especially when an OTA is being pushed, but on those occasions where El Goog messes up, it's extremely handy. Which is why I was probably running 5.0.1 without encryption before most of you and it took me 10 minutes.
