6P Now or Wait Until Fall - Fi Deal

Okay...

I'm a budget minded kind of guy. I've been drooling over the 6P for a while but recently decided I would wait for the new Nexus phones in the fall.

I've also been interested in giving Project Fi a try.

With the current Fi deal going on, should I jump on it? Or remain patient for the next round?

ETA: I'm currently using a OnePlus One, so I'm not in a horrible spot. I plan on keeping my next phone for 2 years or so... if I can stand it...

We're probably looking at 2-3 months. IMO waiting sucks. I probably wouldn't wait, but so far I like most of what I'm seeing from the Marlin. Tough call.

The deal with project fi is great. $350 for 32gb is great for the phone. Not sure how much the new phone will be priced at but I would think quite a bit more than that.

If you're budget-minded, the 6P on Fi is a preeeetty good deal. However, rumors say the new Nexus will have a 5.5" screen compared to 5.7" and a slightly larger battery, so all around better battery life.

I have the 6P now and I can say that battery life is good, it almost always lasts me the whole day. 4 hours 30 minutes of screen time is a low, 6 is a high.

You didn't really give us enough to go on:
1. Is the 6P the ideal size for you, or would you prefer a smaller device?
2. Since the current devices and new devices will work on Fi you lose no functionality by waiting.
3. Is cost your deciding factor, or are there others equally important like battery size, processor muscle, etc? If the former then the 6P is probably your best bet, but you might find better deals closer to the next launch.

I'm quite happy with my 6P but I would have preferred a smaller device; unfortunately the 5X just didn't get the kind of reviews I was looking for, and I wanted to get out from under Big Red, so I went with the deal on the 6P (and Fi). YMMV.

I just purchased a 64gb 6p on amazon warehouse deals for 346 with prime shipping. The phone was listed as having a damaged box and it looks like it was opened and never used. After 24 hours this thing is a beast!! My nexus 6 was a great phone too.

How long do you keep phones? If you do annual upgrades then the 6P Project FI deal would be the way to go. If you are on a two year cycle then I'd wait. Oreo will be the last update for the 6P, the 2016 phones will also get Peeps.

From what I've read the new 5.5 Nexus will cost significantly more than what you can get the N6P for via the Fire deal. So will the new phone be worth possibly $200 or $300 more to you? That is how I would look at it.

I don't think we can say that; all we can say is the 6P is not guaranteed to get Android P. It appears that Google is trying to port new versions of Android to the older phones, if they can run it well; such as the Nexus 5 being upgraded to Marshmallow. When Google made the announcement, they stated "at least" two years, not that it would be always limited to two years.

Additionally, you would continue getting security updates, at a minimum, until Android P is released, meaning if you buy a 6P now you, at a minimum, get security updates for another two years.

Does anyone actually use phones for two or more years now? I know I start getting new phone itch within a couple months. Both of my current daily drivers are 2015 Q4 phones, but one I got at the end of March and have already bought a couple of 2016s to play with while awaiting the new Nexus phones. If you ARE on an average of two years, wait for the Marlin. If not, 6P is still one of the top two phones available today.

Waiting for the 7P or whatever it's called.

Then the 6P price will drop further. Looking at buying it then....don't need the latest and greatest

Is this really a question, lol its your $ your choice. The cycle isn't new, device releases, new model leaks 3-4months later, gets released, rinse and repeat. ..all in between the people debate and contemplate.

I love my 6P and am thinking of upgrading to either 64 or 128 gig. From what I've read about the new HTC-made nexus devices, I'm not sure how interested I am. The improved specs are nice, but my 6P performs as well as the latest bloated devices I've tried. Plus, it looks like the screen will be smaller on the new devices which is downgrade in my case (I want a bigger screen, not smaller).

So, should I wait or just stick with 6P?

I think you answered your own question. The 6P is a great phone. I picked it over the s7 edge. Unless I find something that really catches my attention, I'll be sticking with the 6P myself. I too have a 32gb and may grab a 64gb or 128gb and pass this one to my son.
