I've been on vz post paid for a few months on their 2.5 gig plan for $65/month. I had transferred my sim from my n6 to the 6p. Their service and coverage is great but I just wanted something cheaper.

So I decided to try st's verizon service. I entered my 6p's imei on st website and no workie. So I called and they said that imei is not in vz database so they couldn't activate. So I took the gf"s turbo 2 (which is active on vz) imei, entered that onto st website and is all good. Popped the sim in the 6p, all is working. St doesn't have enhanced lte so no volte. Small price to pay for a 45 buck a month phone bill. Plus you get 5 gigs/mo and virtually the same service as a regular vz account.

I considered fi but vz is the only carrier that works in my area.

Anyone else thinking of going straight talk or some other mvno.?

I made the switch to Project Fi from Verizon when I got my 6P. To my delight T-Mobile has improved greatly in my area and I see my phone using it more than Sprint, which I knew worked decently here. My backup plan was to go to Straight Talk if Project Fi didn't work out for me. So far it's working just as well as Verizon did. And since I'm on wifi at home and at work I hardly use any data anyways. I expect my phone bill will be around $30-35 a month with Project Fi and I don't have to worry about paying for data that I won't use. And it's nice knowing if I do need the data I can still use as much as I need.

My thinking when I chose St over fi was that sprint and tmo are horrible at my house. Sure I have wifi, but I have to drive about 5 miles for tmo and maybe double that for sprint. Plus I'm on the road alot, and surely vz works better in rural areas. I would love to pay 30-35 bucks but in my case ain't happening. 😊

I really hope all the rumblings and rumors of Project Fi getting Verizon and AT&T added to their networks are true. I really doubt it will happen though. I've got a 1061 mile road trip coming up next week(Illinois to Texas), so I'll see how well Project Fi works on the road. Made the trip before and Verizon was solid in most places except a few rural Texas areas that I only got 3G.

Weird, chatted with straight talk and they checked and said it would work. I am considering switching over but am now concerned. I don't have another phone to activate and switch sims.

Judging by the activity here, I will assume that most are on the big 4 carriers. It's a shame that mvno's aren't more mainstream. Mvno is 'mobile virtual network operator' meaning companies who resell the big 4's services, straight talk just one of maybe 20 to do so. They resell cheaper with usually more data than their parent network.

Oh well, I will save money with the vast MINORITY. ✌
