A video that makes a lot of sense

I thought his main argument in the video was that even though the Note 8 is a great phone... if you don't need the pen... then for $250-$300 cheaper the S8/S8+ is practically the identical phone except no pen. then he does the comparison using his usual schtick which I'm not sure if I really like but I keep watching some of his vids at times... so I guess I do like his style.

He makes a compelling argument. The one thing he can't argue is if you like the pen or want the pen... then his video is not for you.
You are right, if the s pen is important to you, then the extra cost is of no concern to you.

I go back to the days of note 2, why I got a note in the first place was for the bigger screen. Now with the s8 plus out there, the screen size is really irrelevant now.

There is a reason why... it’s because Samsung or any other manufacturer thinks they can push as high as they can until they find out otherwise.

So to tell people not to frequent the board if they have a problem with price is ridiculous.

I actually consider us in the U.S. lucky we can argue about the $950 or $1000 price tag. They price it at that for us because they KNOW not to mess with us and try pushing over $1000.

How do I know this? While you can buy a Note 8 for $930 here in US... how much is the same phone in Canada?? 1299 canadian! That comes to $1049 US dollars.

God bless America lol. I’d hate to be thinking of buying a Note 8 in other countries. But it’s because of discussion like this that help.

You are exactly right. In my country we are getting NO discount. BUT there also wasn't a class action filed here. I keep telling people, if you don't complain, speak out and aren't downright annoying, they are going to run all over you. But noone listens to me. So I am the only weird person not praising Samsung and we as a country get what we deserve.

I agree with your first line. If I stick with the Note 8, it'll be my only phone until the Note 9, if I decide to go that route.

The iPhone 8 won't be an upgrade to the S8 for many reasons. 1. It's an Apple device. It'll be an upgrade for the current Apple lineup. 2. It'll be a huge refresh for Apple. It'll contain many design elements that weren't available to Apple users before, if the rumors stay true. 3. The iPhone 8 will appeal to a much wider audience than the Note 8, but the Note line has always been for a niche market.

I'm considering the iPhone 8, but that's because it won't be a huge slab like the 7 Plus was. It'll be a huge departure from the usual Apple form factor, and I find that quite exciting.

I personally don't find the iPhone 8 exciting at all. I'm not bothered that much with how a phone looks but with what it can do. I never minded when the S5 was called ugly and looked like bad aid. I liked it because ir had great features. Apple changing the form factor, bringing an inferior version of wireless charging, tacking on face unlock, bringing oled and having the cheek to charge a fortune for it is not what I want. I say this as a big Apple fan. I have the 7 plus which I'll be keeping, an Apple Watch, an iPad Pro, an Apple TV, a MacBook and air pods. So as you can see I'm heavily invested in Apple's ecosystem. However I'm not falling for the hyperbole of this new iPhone. Just because it's a big change for the iPhone, when you put it in the wider context of smartphone market. Apple are late to the game on many things. They are charging a fortune for things that android devices have had for years.

The note interests me. It will still have a lot of features that the iPhone 8 still doesn't have.

I've used the original note, the note 3 and 4 so I know exactly what I'm getting here. The dual camera I've been using on my 7 plus since launch day particularly the bokeh effect. Not so much the standard shooter as it pales in comparison to the standard shooter from the last few years on Samsung phones.

I want the s-pen
I want the dual cameras
I want the 6.3 inch display
I want the 6GB of ram because it improves the performance of DeX which is something I'm excited to use.

So for me it's worth the extra money of the S8+. In fact I held off getting the S8+ because I knew I'd want the note.

I wonder if North Korea will get the Note 8 LOL. You should see the crappy smartphone options they have and you wouldn't complain about our phones anymore.

Can you imagine being stuck with options like this?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDcXq-lXAuw
I suppose most of them won't know what other options there are out there because their access to the outside world is heavily moderated and in a lot of cases restricted. So most of them will be eternally greatful for this POS provided to them by their dear leader.

I think America and South Korea really deserve the discount as they were most effected by the debacle. In the UK the phone got recalled before it was officially released only a few were lucky enough to get one early if the had pre-ordered.

South Korea and America were one of the very few places where the note 7 was officially released and people had their phones for weeks before issues started happening. Additionally the phone went back on sale in these places before the second recall. In other places it didn't even go on sale. I think Samsung are being very humble and generous here.

Re: And then there's this guy.

He admitted at the start of the video that he wasn't interested in the device even before it was announced.

Here's an alternative view

https://youtu.be/cD5ppLS2S8Q

Most don't like big phones so the note has always been panned for being too big by most.

Re: And then there's this guy.

I don't see anything wrong with what he says. If you don't want S Pen and 6 GB RAM he says buy the S8+ which provides everything else other than dual camera. He is not thrashing the Note or telling someone to buy iPhone, Pixel or any other non Samsung device.

Don't disagree.
Since I'm a notefanboy, I'm just glad it IS for me and I didn't have to listen to him say how nice the phone is but it's....
'probably not for you'.
In other words, he's saying 'it's a really nice BIG phone. Honey, this phone is too much phone for you.
Buuuuuttt, perhaps a nice simple flip phone with big numbers is more in line with what you want'.

Cool. So the Note 8 is the device for you then.

Re: And then there's this guy.

haha.
for those of us who are tech savvy a lot of these youtubers are just blowing hot air.
I mean not one point they make pro or con we are not aware of, haven't thought of, do not know or don't discuss on these boards.

The issue with the pricing, which I have also complained about, rests with the S8. The mainstream best seller.
Since Samsung and resellers decided to set the price at 750, instead of 650 or 700, they pushed the price for the S8+ and Note 8 up.

It's that simple. No way they would sell the S8 and S8+ at the same price and no way they would sell the Note 8 at the same price as the S8+.

So blame the S8 pricing.

also Note phones are not crowd pleasers, meaning they were never meant to be mainstream, that's the job of S8 and S8+, so many of these youtuber just do not like and never did like the Note.

:)

True. If you visit there you can still use your phones but you have to buy a North Korea SIM card which doesn't allow internet access and your phone calls are also monitored.

There was an article a few months back about North Korea phones and it showed Kim Jong Un using an new model HTC phone. Don't remember which model but I doubt most there could buy it. I think Air Koryo models are the only phones for sale there like this POS. Yet, just a few miles away in South Korea they have the newest phones and even get them earlier than we do in the states.

Btw why do the Asian markets like South Korea, China, Japan get better versions of these phones? With more RAM and memory. Why don't they sell them in the states? is it because they figure the price would be too high?

Re: And then there's this guy.

Not sure what you referring to about "noise."

But as you mention there's plenty of reviewers giving praise to the Note 8 and glossing over or not putting more attention at the price. Don't get me wrong.. Samsung has accomplish an amazing feat with the Note 8, but there's so many phones to choose from.

Granted, there's not too many phones.. perhaps hardly none at all that has legitimate stylus support. It gives Samsung that justification to put a premium on it, but these reviewers help potential buyers make a smart decision instead of jumping head in.

By Noise I mean the buzz. Positive or negative. Of course reviews and other's insights can be very helpful in making tech decisions, but some people get so caught up in what some random guy or gal on the Internet says that they stop thinking for themselves. If you like something and want it, get it. Everyone else can bang off. That's what I meant :)

Re: And then there's this guy.

He didn't once blow hot air. He laid it out exactly for what it was and said most people would be better suited for the S8 or S8+. Let's not delude ourselves thinking the Note 8 is an inexpensive device.

And then there's this guy.

But y ppl that dont even want a Note 8 even got one b4 me tho?

for us it's all hot air.

1) who care what he thinks.
2) he is not a Note users, so what difference does it make if he approves or disapproves of the device.
3) I don't need some je**of* telling me what I should do, when I already am a tech-expert and work in the industry.
4) anyone who visits these forums on regular basis and is a contributor knows more than any of these so called nothings on youtube.
5) what I do like on YouTube are tips and tricks videos.
6) do you honestly think a 22 year old girl who is deciding between iPhone 7 or S8 is going to even bother watching these ugly bastards? No way!
7) so these so called opinions by non Note users about a device that is used primarily by the professionals is utterly useless and a total waste of time.
8) as I said before blame the pricing on the S8 and note the Note 8.

Cheers,

Sums it up nicely. Your typical user, 20-30 yr old chick and most who are not really into smartphones are not going to spend 3 hours watching videos on youtube going into details about these phones like processors and all. They hear an new iphone is coming out and they all think it's awesome and think it's the best because that is what the media and marketers tell them and not some overweight tech guy going into the fine details. That just doesn't turn on or interest most people.

Most people are not power users like us on these forums who buy 5 cases for their phones and buy the Note 8 or even S8 Plus. Hell, Donald Trump who is a multi-billionaire as of last October was still using the Galaxy S3 and he certainly has the funds to constantly buy the latest phone.

It's just like with firearms and ARs I'm into the fine details of it and such. The typical shooter or person who primarily owns guns for self defense isn't into all the technical stuff about it.

Re: And then there's this guy.

#5 I live for the tips and tricks. There's always some that are new to me! What better way to learn how to use it to its full potential?!

in my experience if you're into details and heritage of one hobby: motorcycles, guns, boats, tech, you'd be into all of your other hobbies or interests. That makes sense. Like most of us on these forums who care, once we get into something we try to learn as much as possible about that thing. :)

YouTube is great for tips and tricks and how-tos. Now as far as opinion, I'd consider that about things I know nothing about haha. but certainly not Samsung Note. :)
