After the Moto X (2014) reveal, are you excited?

I was very pleased with the software improvements that Moto is bringing to their next-gen phones. And I was pleased to hear reports that those improvements will be pushed to the current Moto X and G.

The Moto 360 doesn't interest me, as I don't "get" what the whole smartwatch thing is about, but people are excited for it, so I guess that launch went well.

The new Moto G is a great value. (And somehow, got the SD card slot, FM radio, and stereo speakers that people wanted to see on the X. Maybe they got their models confused??)

Moto X.... I like it, but they made it too big for me to consider it, I think. I'll have to try it in the store first because I'm not sold.

Finally, the Moto Hint... the price is a little ridiculous, but I think that paired with a Moto X, it could be pretty sweet.

Overall, a pretty good launch, and the devices certainly have my interest. And remember, we still have to wait for an update to the DROID lineup to see what they bring along.

I like it, but I decided earlier today that it's not enough for me to abandon my current Moto X. I mean, there really isn't anything that I don't like about the original Moto X, so I would only be buying a new phone just because I wanted to buy something new.

So I bought a new pair of shoes instead.

Yeah....this does seem like just making a more refined, better looking phone that is up to date with what is currently out. Seems more like it's aimed at bringing new customers into the Moto line rather than focusing on making last years customers wanting to upgrade. Which I guess makes sense since America is sorta mostly still on the 2 year upgrade model.

I still think I'll buy this one, if not for looks alone. I can't help but looking at the crease on the side of my phone and thinking "Why can't you be a shiny solid metal strip". That leather back sounds interesting to me too. Still waiting to see the reviews though.

Until the hands-on reviews come in I'l be unable to decide. It's a great looking device... however, by the time you pay that extra $50 for a bump to 32 gigs it's going to have to compete ( and win to get my money ) with everything else in the $550 range.

Absolutely. And if I were to go for the new Moto X, I'd definitely get one of the leather backs. I think the people concerned about how it's going to age are missing the point. It's leather. It's SUPPOSED to develop a patina over time. That's what makes it beautiful.

Am I the only one excited about android L? Nothing else but a nexus or a new or old x is ever going to see it without a dumb skin over it. As long as the specs are in the ballpark of other flagships then that really ranks high for me. Most people outside of these forums don't care at all about what version they are on though. My wife hates when her phone software gets updated and loves huge phones so the note series is her favorite.

However the spec bump will be nice. I've been playing with a note 3 I picked up on swappa...i thought the x was smooth... Nothing slows this down even with the silly tw skin! I'm excited the new x basically has the same specs and is obviously smaller. My x slows down if I run a background dash cam app and navigation at the same time for example.

Also not having wireless charging isn't a deal breaker issue in itself for me .
I would have liked it to have had wireless charging though.

Re: After the reveal, are you excited?

I was, and then saw the battery. Yes you do not always need a huge battery, but a 100 mah increase with a larger, high res screen and most likely is going to have not that great battery life. Moto was so close to making the near perfect phone. They improved the camera, and the screen, and I am a fan of the new look. But I will wait and see how battery is. I cannot deal with a phone that has poor battery life.

Agree. I played with the moto x and everyone claiming it was so buttery smooth, at least when I played with it, it did not seem that smooth and still had some lag to it. Hopefully with the high end specs of the new moto x, that will be fixed.

I am still very comfortable with my S4, I think I'll change it in about a year but if I had to buy a phone in the next months, I think I would go for Moto X. There are no big differences in hardware with other options.
The only thing that worries me about this phone is the battery, but on the other hand that thing of charging the phone 15 minutes for 8 hours of use, is great! That would save me many times.
Also the Moto X is very nice! I really like the big logo, but it's a matter of taste.

They're saying screen draw is less and we know the 801 is far more efficient than the s600 under the same conditions. Moto did some different things with power allocation on their krait 300s last time. I'd assume they're smart enough not to release a device with worse battery life and that means at least all day for most customers.

Nope

I only saw lag with the intensive stuff (recording HD video while simultaneously scrolling around Google maps). But who can hate a spec bump.

It's an old phone now in term of spec, dual core 1.7ghz. Compared to these newer phones with quadcore 2.5ghz.

And you probably wasn't using it with ART.

Re: After the reveal, are you excited?

I was a bit underwhelmed, I was expecting at least a 3000 MAH battery and no fast charge technology(or equivilant) and a better design (I love the back though) id prefer a rectangular shape with metal sides, and sadly no 64GB version come on. Overall id give it 6/10 based on what id have liked

Re: After the reveal, are you excited?

I'm buying one, but I bought a second 2013 Moto X because I have a feeling I'll still prefer the smaller one.

As long as the software updates make it to the current x there's no compelling reason I can think of to upgrade unless you *like* bigger phones (which I happen to prefer slightly).

There's kernel support for some STMicro microprocessors outside the SoC in there. They are doing something ...

Hey jerry, for some reason I think the new x may have a few tricks up it's sleeves. I would be interested to see a tear down of the new x.

Camera for me is a compelling enough reason.
