AMAZING battery life!!!! Check it out!

FWIW... just ran Neo Core and got 25.7FPS.

What does the Evo normally get?
Around 25 fps anyway, right?
Or was it lower?

Edit: I just got the donation version of Titanium backup and I'm going to learn how to root.

Heh, it was much easier rooting my Palm PRe.

You didn't have to get titanium to root, just fyi, or the donation version for that matter. good luck with the root btw! welcome aboard.

Thanks.
I just wanted to backup my stuff. I'm assuming it's good to have when I flash roms.

Ok, first off...if this works so well, why didn't they ship the Evo this way? I'm a bit skeptical and wondering what I'd be killing in doing this. Second, does this kill the camera like froyo? And last, what happens when froyo does come along and I've rooted?

Not trying to crap on anyone, I just want to make sure what happens if I decide to do this, because it seems too good to be true.

When Froyo comes along you can just flash one of the many froyo roms to come ;)

I've found it best not to question how some people do it.
When I had my Palm Pre, they did some amazing things that made me wonder why Palm didn't implement those features.

And the camera won't work if you overclock a bit. Go to the the thread and he has written some of the bugs that he's fixed and what can happen if you overclock with the ROM. So you'll stay pretty stable at 1ghz, but you can lose stability by OC'ing.
I haven't flashed the rom yet, but that's what I got from reading that 30 page thread, lol.

I dunno...it looks like icons get changed and things don't work for random people. I like my phone and settings just the way they are, only thing id improve is battery life...

I'm doing this so I can put screen brightness all the way up cause I just want the battery to last one full day.

It seems like people are getting more than 1 day, so I'm thinking this may be worth it.

I am also weary of these things. They could steal all of your information and passwords etc... I doubt they would but I always have that in my head... i:)i

Anyway I wonder what it does exactly to help battery life?

There are a lot of things mentioned here but I don't see any links etc.. How does the Titanium Backup work, what does it backup/restore exactly etc... I need to know more. i:)i

Be skeptical all you want.. i am just letting people know what i found. i have rooted all my android phones and found this to work well for me. I have not found anything that this rom "breaks". Camera works great. Some roms just work better than others. As far as why google or HTC didn't ship the phone this way... is a question i have asked myself since day 1. I mean, if these devs can figure it out, you would think one of the obscenely overpaid devs at google should be able to... or at LEAST, since it is an open source thing... just use what these devs are doing in future releases.. but dont get me started on that! ;)

When Froyo comes out, you just flash one of the devs roms that has froyo.. or do the OTA and you will just unroot (most devs will have their roms updated within a day or so of any OTA).

The important thing to know is that MOST anything that you will do is reversible. just make sure that you follow instructions!

Good luck on your decision.

It will backup market apps, settings, and other features on the device so that you can restore them when you reload. The best thing i have found is to just backup the user installed apps, then i go through and backup all the settings individually (things that are green in TB). There will be items in red when you are looking at the TB list but i usually dont back those up as sometimes those are rom specific (but lots of people do just a full backup and restore).

Titanium Backup ★ root - Android app on AppBrain

I would recommend the donate version and the dev is SUPER quick on responding and very helpful with questions and problems. like i have said, this is the best money i have spent on any app!.

Wow rooting takes ages.

I think I finally rooted but I'm about to start with "Installing a custom Rom"
Gonna see if I can do the simpleroot command... seems easier.

Doing better them me. I can not get the phone rooted to save my life. I get the white screen it starts then Never ask to flash.......3 hours I give. Usually I am good at this type of stuff. Something tells me I didnt put the zip in the
root directory.

There is something I hate about most of this ROMs...

Right now I am using a rooted rom that is basically stock + root, and I am happy with it. Now, I would LOVE to use for instance this battery saving ROM, but WHY the developers insist in adding personal touches to the Roms?!!! (like modifying themes, icons, etc).

I mean, why don't they do just performance enhancing ROMS without touching any styling (because styling is something very personal, and something that might look great to you, can look horrible to me....)

theres a couple custom roms that have the stock theme/icons...

I caint get this right!

Ok, I'm having a bit of a time understanding this ROOT, RECOVERY, WIPE, FLASH, ROM process.

This what I've done so far:
1. Rooted my Pre with unrEVOked.
2. Downloaded the ROM from this thread to my SD card.
3. Installed "ROM Manager"
4. Installed the "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery"
5. Attempted to "Install ROM from SD card" but I get a "can't open cache recovery command"

I have no clue what to do to fix that or if i'm even doing this thing the right way.

I have looked at other methods, but for some reason, I caint get my head around the command line stuff.

And direction or help would be appreciated

So i installed a new rom Saturday night and i havent charged my phone since!

It lasted 1 day 9.5HR!!!!! I used the phone as i usually do... I would say it was moderate use throughout sunday (had a bunch of text messages, did some web browsing, played a few games, streamed a few short youtube vids, did some facebooking, etc). Bluetooth and wifi were both on when i needed them and turned them off when i wasnt using them (wifi was on most the time). I did not use my GPS or 4G.. BUT....

1 day 9.5hr!!!!!

Here is the ROM i installed: [ROM] Baked Snack V.7 6/16/10 FAST,STABLE,BATTERY SAVING+(optional 1.2ghz overclock) - xda-developers

Also, see attached pic for proof. I am blown away that a ROM would make THAT much difference because i would normally get about 10 - 14 hours depending on use!!

of course your phone is goign to last that long, i mean more than 50% of the time, you weren't doing anything with it.

theres a couple custom roms that have the stock theme/icons...

Yes, sure, the one I am using is like that, but my problem is that they release new amazing roms with great features (like this battery saving rom), but you can only get them all modified..... :(
