Android 2.3 Gingerbread EI22 latest build WITH IMAGE

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EG22 latest build

I installed teh 2.3.3 (ef02) version not the gb EG 2.3.4 version and my front facing camera quality is atrocious. Otherwise I love gingerbread. My regular camera no longer has a 2 sec preview of photos which is annoying but my new front facing camera software I just cant deal with. I use that camera the most. Is there anyway to install the dk28 camera driver only. I watched the tutorial on installing the different modems and now use the dk28 modem since I get best service with that....so I was wondering if that was possible with other things. And is there anyone who tried 2.3.3 then installed 2.3.4? if so, did you notice any difference in the camera software?

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EG22 latest build

EF02 had many issues, and it seemed like the longer you attempted to run it the worse it got. As far as the camera drivers/firmware I'm not really aware of any real complaints with this on EG22 and I don't think you can use any Froyo stuff on GB without it being properly ported.

Edit: After read reading your post again I realized your were talking about the front facing camera. This is a very low quality camera and its always been grainy since the phones release. As mentioned by ratsttam it really was never intended for high quality.

Front camera is a bit grainy. But it was pretty much the same under EC05 Froyo, as it was under all the leaked GB builds I've tried so far. I just figured it was supposed to be low quality for streaming video purposes.

Can't say I ever tried out the bluetooth on it. I could never get any accessories (including three BT enabled laptops) to work with my Samsung Intercept, and I kinda just don't bother with BT now. I love the sound quality on my BlackBerry stereo wired headphones (which work great on the Epic), and the aux in for my car. Maybe because I don't use it as a PHONE very often ;)

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EG22 latest build

There seems to be something quirky with bluetooth on froyo. Has anyone seen GB fix this issue? I sure hope so. Thanks.

I am havng a problem with my bluetooth as well. I am rooted running EC05 Froyo. I thought it was my Jawbone ERA at first, but it does it with my vehicles bluetooth also. 2 or 3 times per phone call it will start going in and out, where I catch like every 5th word someone says. Seems to happen most around radio and cell towers. Any helpful hints why this is happening or how to fix it?

I do understand the low quality of the front facing camera but when I say atrocious I mean I cannot get a good picture to save my life. I can link two photos taken with the front facing camera in the exact same lightsource. One on EC05 Froyo and one on the 2.3.3 Gingerbread. The camera is zoomed in, and literally everything blurs into everything else. These two pics were taken in the same room with the same two lamps on. The first pic is with the gingerbread software the second pic is with froyo. Please disregard my vanity.

With the new camera software I dont even think I could take a picture like the 2nd. It'd just be a zoomed in pic of my head and shoulders. Am I the only one seeing this difference?

^^^ wow! so you are smart and sexy huh? :D

...so the GB pic is the "zoomed in" one as you describe. i think i see your point. i just tried it and i *think* i got the same thing. never really noticed this before.

UPDATE: Dear God, it is awful. I misunderstood what you meant about the zoom... It's like it's permanently "zoomed" in, with the respectful blur that goes along with it!!! [stock EG22]
END UPDATE

If I'm seeing this right, the GB one is Zoomed in, the Froyo one isn't???? Hardly a fair comparison.

Unless the lens can move, zooming isn't really zooming, its cropping then enlarging. So your 640x480 at 2x zoom is actually 320x240, or 1/4 the amount of pixels, and then pixel doubled (adding one over, one down, basically adding 3 pixels around the one to "enlarge it" back to 648x480). Now for instance, if you were to quick take a picture at 0x zoom and 2x zoom in froyo, you'll see the same difference, and if you zoom out to 0x it will look clearer, since each pixel is now it's own piece of information, instead of every 4 being the same.

Please see this explanation:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_zoom
And you'll understand why Digital Zoom should not be considered zoom at all.

That was quick, 8 day turn around between builds. Could this one be the "new rom" coming middle of August that samfirmware is talking about? Once a solid build is made, it doesn't take much time to remove the debug code, so here's hoping to an official GB release within the month. :)

Anyway, the EG22 leak seemed pretty solid, the modem crash seemed to be taken care of, but people talk about the bluetooth not working right (I don't use it, so I would not have noticed either way). I've never really had it work properly on a Samsung android phone, which is why I don't bother with BT accessories. I always just figured it was sub-standard (or non-standard) bluetooth hardware.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EG30 latest build

I forget, did EC05 leak out before it was officially released?

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EG30 latest build

My guess is it will be released between August 20th and Sept 5th.

No. The only Froyo leak we ever had to play with was Froyo DK28 which was leaked around Dec 1-3, 2010 and had many custom ROMs built off it.

Try turning your WI-FI off when using the blue tooth. Mine had that problem when I'm around or connected to an access point, but it goes away when I turn WIFI off.

Cool, thanks. I'll try that today

I've heard rumors that you will not be able to root on GB...any truth to this?

We've already got it, works with the ee03, ef02, and eg22 leaked builds, and will work with any build that comes out.

As long as we've got ODIN, we'll have root. Trivial matter actually rooting any build that comes out, be it just adding the su binary, or having root cooked into a custom kernel. Odin will get you custom recovery, and that will get you anything else you or a dev can imagine for the Epic :)

The devs have already thought about this and were working on this back over a month ago.

The normal exploit we use to root the Epic 4g, using OneClickRoot and ADB to root your device will be no more. Once official GB hits, you will have to get GB on your device either by means of official OTA, update.zip method or by using Odin and then you will have to use Odin to flash a rooted kernel. Then you will be able to Odin ClockWorkMod onto your device and your good to go!

So for those of you who are shy about using Odin, better make nice with it or you will be stuck rolling with a stock device from my understandings...

And odin is why you gotta love samsung... take that evo 4g owners with gb....

I wish htc and others had something like odin
