Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH05 latest build

Really Ted, CWM is the key to all things rooting. It's the thing that allows you to flash ROMs, themes, kernels, and special mods (the keyboard lag fix is a good example).

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH05 latest build

thanks all. I will study and get back to you. It would be nice to keep the phone rather than upgrade.

Okay I saw vid on installing CWM. how do I get the latest gingerbread onto the phone and is there a list of bloatware I can remove? And how do I get the phone back to stock?

I believe qbking77 has a video in his list (that thread link I provided) showing you how to install it. The link to the actual GB ROM is in our rooting and hacking section in a sticky thread.

Bloatware is up to you as to what you want to remove. I will tell you how once your on GB.

Going back to stock will require the use of Odin to flash back to stock.

Everything I've mentioned here I think he also has videos on. ;)

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH05 latest build

It's getting close. My wife hoards the desktop because she is in school. Can I get EH06? Is anyone on it yet? I will root this weekend.

According to Samfirmware.com who leaked the last few Gingerbread builds they said they would have something available this weekend.

I would bet to say its EH05 but I could be wrong, it could be EH06...

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH11 latest build

I guess that from what everyone is saying, I would benefit battery and performance wise by just rooting and deleting bloatware. Is this true? Is there a list of Apps for strictly rooted phones?

Below is a list I found for Gingerbread, for the most part the list is basically the same for Froyo too. There are some things in this list below that are strickly Gingerbread only and wouldn't be found in Froyo. Fir the most part the names are basically self explanatory what they do and what you would be removing.

List of Removed Apps (credit xda developers)

They can be removed in many different ways

1. By going in manually using ES File Explorer or Root Explorer or equivelant from the Market and going to the the /system/app/ directory and deleting the ".apk" (apps) one by one.

2. Installing a ROM that already has the bloatware removed.

3. Using the following tool to help you, it will also allow you to make a backup of the apps removed so you could restore them if need be.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH11 latest build

No problem Ted. That is what I'm here for, to pass on the same help I received from Ragnarokx and the AC members when I first dove into rooting my device for the first time. Trust me I had some very silly questions too... :p

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH11 latest build

There is a new build every couple days now. We have got to be getting close...

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH11 latest build

@Funky Cricket, I sure hope so.... I just wish we knew what it was that keeps failing causing the need for a new build every few days.

But then again we aren't even supposed to know these test builds exist.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH11 latest build

I had my phone rooted and flashed or rom'd to ACS - as you can see i don't even know the correct terminology! anyway, the phone is a little faster in some area's but the battery life still sucks and the 4g/3g switching is just as bad as ever. i really hate this phone! i thought rooting and putting in a good rom would do the trick, but not much has changed. Same issues, phone shuts down with 15 or 20 percent left, horrible battery, 4g always connecting and disconnecting and i'm in a solid 4g area (chicago suburbs)....oh, less force closes though i noticed.

waiting on gingerbread to see if that helps at all....i'm due for upgrade but not really impressed with anything out there right now. I doubt i'm going with another samsung phone though! maybe the nexus...or the next nexus when that comes.

pretty discouraging.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH11 latest build

Ted, the above post is not normal behavior. A properly tuned custom ROM will normally give a user at least a 10 hr plus day, light users have seen in the neighborhood of 20+ hrs on a single charge (I have had 24 hrs plus myself on many occasions). 4g signal cutting in and out is not the fault of any ROM and more the fault of Sprints service. A better modem from Samsung would be appreciated but it does come down to signal strength.

As far as phone shutting down with 15-20 percent left on the battery I haven't experienced this myself. Actually on ACS ROM and many others now they have the 20% low battery cut off on the Camera/Video/Sound Recorder apps removed so you can continue to use them instead of the stock setting that cuts them off. The subject of FC's is more on the users end, something he/she may have done because I know personally ACS's ROMs and others are well tested and if left in the stock form they are released in they are normally very reliable.

Everyones experience varies, not to say the above stuff doesn't happen but I think this user was having a string of bad luck because much of what is mentioned is fixable and not normal activity of custom ROMs.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH11 latest build

I haven't had all the same issues as mcp6530, but lots of FC's is one I've had ever since I got this phone (refurbished through Asurion, original suffered liquid damage thanks to a daughter), I got it right as Froyo came out OTA, so I've never been sure if it's hardware or software, but I've tried ACS, ACE, and now one of the ROM's based on EC05, with the same issues on all of them. EC05, at least, seems less likely to corrupt things so if it does go into an FC cycle, a hard reboot clears things up for another day. Battery life has gone down with the EC05 ROM, probably because it's a dev release and hasn't been fully tweaked yet.

Correction, not EC05, EG22.

I finally have given up on waiting, and decided to start trying to flash roms! Amazing how great the device runs with decent software!
do what i did i used odin to run the eg22 build its really good no rootin or nothing like that paul helped me out in the process and told me how to go back to froyo to get the ota update when gb is officially released.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH11 latest build

that sounds like a good plan as a beginner. What is the latest gb build I can flash (install?) on my phone? I understand that a new build is being leaked this weekend.
