Android 2.3 Gingerbread EI22 latest build WITH IMAGE

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH11 latest build

that sounds like a good plan as a beginner. What is the latest gb build I can flash (install?) on my phone? I understand that a new build is being leaked this weekend.

As I write this, EG22 is the most recent. We can say with some certainty that the next leak (most likely EH05) will land this weekend. You'll see a smattering of posts about it as well as many links almost as soon as it happens. EG22 still has some debugging code in it, we'll know how close to official release we are once the devs pour over the new leak. No debug code left, should mean an official OTA right around the corner.

I will say that EG22 has been solid and didn't leave me wanting for anything to be fixed. I hope that trend of improvement carries on to the official release :)

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH11 latest build

What are the things you like for EG22 over EC05 Froyo?

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH11 latest build

My main concerns are that the finished product of Gingerbread should yield a better battery life over Froyo at least that is what many other devices running GB are claiming. Other main improvement which we have seen in real world usage and also via benchmark scores is a great overall performance improvement over Eclair or Froyo.

I know a big issue throughout the GB builds and even Froyo was Sprint asking Samsung for a better modem (radio) to address signal issues and other aspects so lets hope for that.

There are some little bells and whisles to GB which many users probably won't care much about but the custom ROM's should and already have taken advantage of like the Overscroll Glow and CRT Animation (when you put your device to sleep the screen shuts off like you hitting the switch on your TV. Cool little animation) but the CRT will require you to be running a custom ROM to enable this.

I know there are other little things like more security fixes and other small things but I think the biggest thing is not so much the amount of new things as much as its an overall more polished OS than what we had with Froyo. From the amount of test builds we can all see that Sprint and Samsung have really put some work into getting this done right this time. I honestly don't remember even a 1/4 of the builds for Froyo that we've seen with GB so that has to say something.

I agree, they have been working overtime on GB. I think it says that this will be the last update for the Epic. So they want it to be as perfect as it can possibly be before they wash their hands of it and move on.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH11 latest build

Your probably correct jrmitchell. I really can't see there being any further updates for the Epic beyond GB. The only thing I could see is a bug fix if something major pops up with official GB that slips by the testing.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH11 latest build

I'm okay with it being the last if it is good. as long as the modem is good and it's a solid build and we got lots of juicey custom roms for the next year or so. I can't see needing a quad core tegra with 2 gb of ram for a phone in the next 18 months...

I just want to play angry birds, stream some media and take pictures of my kids. oh and lots of texting and email for work.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH11 latest build

I completely agree Funky... We all just want a phone that works as expected without having to goto extremes..

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH11 latest build

Is there any point in flashing Odin now before EH05 comes out- that is the version I would want.

EG22 is a very stable leak so you will get a taste of GB and how far the progress of Sprint and Samsung bringing GB to the Epic has come :)

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH11 latest build

I am curious about the relative difficulty of restoring the phone back to stock either by Odin or CWM and is My Backup Pro[/U} a sufficient back up for all my data, contacts, emails, and apps? I am currently backing up to my SD [card.

The only way to go back to stock is through Odin. Personally, I prefer titanium because I like their UI better (it's simpler and allows me to have more control). It is also very easy to go back to stock.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH11 latest build

So it looks like samfirmware can't get eh11 from samsung's server and will be releasing eh06 today or tomorrow. I'm mobile so I can't quote source but it is via their twitter feed.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH11 latest build

okay, I'm rooted. (Sound of angels weeping). Random CWM purple, installed root explorer and dumped lots of bloatware by renaming not deleting. Two issues today. The amount of Ram used seems to be the same and I can't run a benchmark. The application locks up at video decoding H. 264. Also when I shut down and reboot, it acted like a brick and it took several minutes of pleading and wringing my hands to get my phone to boot up. Any comments gratefully received. Happy Sunday.

Since you are only renaming the bloatware you don't want its still taking up the same amount of RAM.

Best way to remove it and save it for future (as you are doing currently) is to copy and paste it to a folder you make on your sd card like "bloatware". Then once you have those apps copied over to sdcard go back in and delete them from /system/app and that will free up RAM very quickly. Normally an average bloatware removal of most Sammy and Sprint junk can free up as much as 40+ meg of RAM which is a lot on the system partition of the memory.

As for the benchmark locking up, not too sure what to make of that.

"As for the benchmark locking up, not too sure what to make of that."

If you don't know what that is, I am truly sacred. I deleted benchmark and installed it twice, tried it on wifi and 3G alike and it just wont run...

thanks for all your help in other areas. Phone is definitely faster, not sure if the battery consumption has slowed at all...

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH11 latest build

Which benchmark are you using Ted? I've had no problems with using Quadrant Benchmar (free version).

I wouldn't worry about it locking up, obviously your phone is functioning properly if your not getting FC's and such so something else weird is going on...

Tell ya the truth if you still just rooted w/CWM on stock EC05 with some bloat removed you will see a slight increase but not too much. Start looking into flashing kernels or eventually flashing a custom ROM and converting your filesystem to EXT4 and then you start to cook...

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH11 latest build

whats an FC? Really, you guys need to publish a glossary of terms. I have advanced degrees but I get lost in your acronyms.
