Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH18 latest build
i know this is noobish.. but what exactly are the pros of rooting? what more would you be able to do?? and the how to root thread has the files & videos but doesn't explain what each is for and will do for your phone. the way they have it set up is a little confusing
Rooting your device allows the user to perform "Superuser" activities which are normally not allowed by the carrier/device maker. When you root your device you can do things like..
[INFO]
- Remove unwanted carrier/manufacturer bloatware (Sprint TV, Nascar, etc.)
- Free wireless tethering (using your device to provide internet access for a laptop/computer)
- Make use of backup programs (MyBackup Root/Titanium Backup) to perform in depth backups of your device and application data normally that can't be done.
- Install a custom ROM (A modified or hacked version of the OS. In most cases the average custom ROM addresses bug fixes and improvements that Sprint/Sammy overlooked.)
- Install custom kernels (this is what tells the device and OS what to do basically. It controls things like processor speed used for overclocking or unclocking your device for better battery life and many other useful fixes/hacks that can be incorporated into a kernel)
- Access to many different apps on the Market that allow you to do things with your device you couldn't do before.
- Along with custom ROMs you can install custom themes for your device that are way more in depth than what a 3rd party launcher or app from the Market can ever provide. The ideas are endless and the amount of themes available and mods shows...

[/INFO]
Overall for most when they take the dive into rooting their device they have a great outcome and never go back to running "stock" or an "unrooted" device. It gives you that freedom to do what you want with your device and take the Android OS that step further.
Naturally this is something that most carriers/device makers frown against and will cause you to void your warranty but we also provide methods to "unroot" or return your device back to the way it appeared when you first purchased it (restore to stock). So if service of your device is ever needed or you decide to sell it or don't want to root anymore the method is available to switch back with no signs left behind of you rooting your device. (keeping your warranty in place).
That's about it in a nutshell.. Anymore questions drop us a line in the Rooting and Hacking section.
