Android 2.3 Gingerbread EI22 latest build WITH IMAGE

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH18 latest build

no rumor of new builds? hmm...:cool:

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH18 latest build

You would have to use the purchased version MyBackUp Pro without root. You need root to use the free version.

Rooting your device will not erase or remove anything so once you root it you can then make your backups before you go further and flash ROM/leaked build.

Oh yeah, that's right. Good point.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH18 latest build

Didn't someone say we were going to get Official GB at the end of August?

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH18 latest build

Oh yeah, that's right. Good point.

I too was a late bloomer in the rooting and ROM use with my Epic... but ever since I converted, I don't think I'll ever go back to stock anything... now I can see why all of you mod'ers would brush off the "OTAs" released by Sprint and Samsung and just wait for a rooted and ROM'd version to come out. I'm not even that excited for the latest GB to come out because I'm having so much fun with Syndicate Frozen. And that's based off of EC05! (if I recall)

I tried one of the new GB builds before deciding on SRF, and it was okay, but had it's issues. The bells and whistles and tweaks on SRF more than make up for the work of putting it on my phone. Rooting, backing up, and flashing definitely took some time and patience to understand, but they are MORE than worth the trouble once you get the hang of them. Highly recommended!

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH18 latest build

i'll start the rumor again, what the heck... :p

if they want to release the latest build, EH18, that means the earliest is 2 weeks from the build date (aug. 18th). so end of aug is potential or beginning of sept.

i know many have been running the leaks and like, so an official release would mean a stable build (in their eyes) and will also mean the source will be made available for new ROMs.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH18 latest build

It's been a few days since an update right? Maybe this one fixed what ever bug they found. Figure a couple weeks final testing, one more release to finalize code and a couple weeks for approval and packaging, be end sept?:D

one can hope. the delay in home screen update when going from portrait to landscape is starting to get old

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH18 latest build

Yes, Paul is right (thanks for chiming in). I used MyBackup Pro to backup my data etc, Root Explorer to move my bloatware, Juice Defender in the b asic stock polsition and used a basic free battery calibration app to recalibrate the batt. I am currently using Voodoo to boost headphone jack volume and I'm happy with EG22 til the final release of GB at which time I will convert to EXT4 and probably do nothing more. I'm not married to my phone like some, just enjoying a casual romance.

Well, did my OneClickRoot today. Had to mess with it a while, after reinstalling the sammy drivers, numerous phone/computer reboots, changing cables, I must have gotten the right combination to get my phone to connect, but even then, had to rerun the script...I got SU and CWM (verified). Downloaded Roam Control, MyBackupPro, and Battery Calibration. Haven't flashed a ROM yet, but trying out the app freeze functions. (Backing up apps and data as we speak). If I refuse to install the OTA GB, it will just put the UPDATE.ZIP on my SD card right? And I can just wait for the rooted ROM of whatever final GB the Devs put out, I should be able to keep my root, assuming I don't flash something I like prior to that?

I am handling this leaked build like we did the leaked Froyo DK28 back in Dec. 2010. Since its not an official OS from Sammy/Sprint you will most likely not get the OTA notification of GB. Yes I understand this is stock GB, but its not an official build and the device will recognize this and not accept the OTA.

But like always there will be ways within hours of OTA release to get the official build flashed for those who are rooted and running this leaked build.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH18 latest build

Maybe its just me, but I'm amazed at how quickly developers can create new builds (that are usually better and more efficient) compared to the billion dollar companies... at least someone gets it right :)

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH18 latest build

i know this is noobish.. but what exactly are the pros of rooting? what more would you be able to do?? and the how to root thread has the files & videos but doesn't explain what each is for and will do for your phone. the way they have it set up is a little confusing :(

Rooting your device allows the user to perform "Superuser" activities which are normally not allowed by the carrier/device maker. When you root your device you can do things like..
[INFO]
- Remove unwanted carrier/manufacturer bloatware (Sprint TV, Nascar, etc.)

- Free wireless tethering (using your device to provide internet access for a laptop/computer)

- Make use of backup programs (MyBackup Root/Titanium Backup) to perform in depth backups of your device and application data normally that can't be done.

- Install a custom ROM (A modified or hacked version of the OS. In most cases the average custom ROM addresses bug fixes and improvements that Sprint/Sammy overlooked.)

- Install custom kernels (this is what tells the device and OS what to do basically. It controls things like processor speed used for overclocking or unclocking your device for better battery life and many other useful fixes/hacks that can be incorporated into a kernel)
- Access to many different apps on the Market that allow you to do things with your device you couldn't do before.

- Along with custom ROMs you can install custom themes for your device that are way more in depth than what a 3rd party launcher or app from the Market can ever provide. The ideas are endless and the amount of themes available and mods shows... :)[/INFO]

Overall for most when they take the dive into rooting their device they have a great outcome and never go back to running "stock" or an "unrooted" device. It gives you that freedom to do what you want with your device and take the Android OS that step further.

Naturally this is something that most carriers/device makers frown against and will cause you to void your warranty but we also provide methods to "unroot" or return your device back to the way it appeared when you first purchased it (restore to stock). So if service of your device is ever needed or you decide to sell it or don't want to root anymore the method is available to switch back with no signs left behind of you rooting your device. (keeping your warranty in place).

That's about it in a nutshell.. Anymore questions drop us a line in the Rooting and Hacking section.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH18 latest build

Yes Paul, all this is true but where is EH18?

But seriously folks Paul was instrumental in getting me rooted. If I can do it then anyone can.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH18 latest build

Sprint's probably too busy trying to figure out their potential Iphone situation to be worried us anymore :(

Not sure, seeing how there hasn't been any builds since EH18 there's a good chance that is final... Coming up on what ten days now since that build, thats a good sign.

I doubt Sprint and the "fruit phone" have anything to do with them getting GB out to us. If anything Sprint would look at it as a way to just capitalize on what they already have.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH18 latest build

haha just sarcasm, though I do admit to being scared of Sprint letting apple ruin them (as in bye bye unlimited data :( ...)

Wow... that would kill things for me... end of unlimited data would be horrible! Let's hope the i-device doesn't interfere with the good stuff that we already have going on here in Sprint

I think Sprint is going to hang onto the unlimited data plans as long as possible. They know its something they have a upper hand with over AT & T and Verizon.

I doubt the fruit phone would make them change that.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH18 latest build

I'd hate to see sprint kill of the unlimited data because of the iFruit, it's a major reason I've been with them this long.
