Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH18 latest build

Would be nice to see this before the Epic 4G Touch arrives, just to see what would have been... I'll be jumping off of this ship regardless.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH18 latest build

They might come out with a slider version...one can dream, right?

Yea really. I'm wondering to see what Sprint's gonna have in their lineup regarding higher end QWERTYs.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH18 latest build

Looks like they might be still developing. Hopefully they're addressing the GPS and memory leak.

The RDF file looks different than it has in the past (no more...no no yes no no no after the different features). Maybe this is the final version which 14 days out would put it at the target date of 9/16

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH18 latest build

Don't know if this is related to the EH17 build that I just (yesterday) loaded, but, my icons in the dock just disappeared! I was in the applications area looking for an app that I thought I had, couldn't locate it, so I was going to go to the market and download it. Hit the "home" button and went to the home screen. It caught my attention IMMEDIATELY that something was missing...

I don't know if this is a "bug" or if I inadvertently wrought havoc with the phone myself... :(

Any ideas/fixes/help?

Thanks!

Dump it. Go back to EG22 or something more stable the EH17 leak is Crap. I am not the only one saying this.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EH18 latest build

I bought an Epic the day they were released which gives me a $75 rebate. Does that mean that I would pay $400 for the GSII? I don't think I can justify that kind off expense.

I know your not the only one in this boat.... Many people would love to upgrade to something else soon but are stuck with the little $75 discount for only 1 yr into their 2 yr contract... :(

I for one am stuck in this boat. An easy way to get an additional $100 off is the Sprint buy back program. This is what the rep told me: As of right now sprint is buying the epic back for $105(this might change with he release of the epic touch) but you can use that $105 plus the $75 and that gives you $180 of the price plus you get to keep your upgrade for next year.

The one issue I am skeptical is which phones you are able to use the $75 upgrade on. I remember when the Palm Pre came out and was in short supply(amazingly) I only had a 1 year upgrade and a couple of reps told me that I could not use the $75 upgrade on that phone. I am unsure if this has changed but the rep I spoke with said that this "should" be possible.

Also of note, selling 3rd party like swappa.com, ebay, or craigslist the Epic is going for around $180. This of course may change with the release of the new phone.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EI05 latest build

Probably my biggest issue with going forward anywhere at Sprint right now in the Sammy line is Sammy's current showing unsuccessful attemps at getting GB on the Epic. I fear this is the same trend for the SGSii line... Start with GB say 2.3.4/2.3.5 and then the upgrade nightmare to future GB updates or even the eventual ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich)... I can see many users sitting around on the SGSii waiting like they did on the original SGS line waiting for Sammy to make a successful update.

Problem is I like Sammy's hardware and am not a fan of the HTC or Moto lines...

Sorry I derailed this thread off topic but I do believe this ongoing showing of unsuccessful leaked builds is showing a pattern of how well do we trust putting our money in Sammy's pocket in the future.?

This is an excellent point. It appears that majority of Samsung's phones to this point have not made it farther than 1 iteration of updates and to even get there they have staggered way behind HTC/Moto. I love samsung's hardware especially their screen technology. I hate motorola's bootloader issues and HTC phones always seem very gimmicky. It is almost like picking the lesser evil to last you for 2 years.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EI05 latest build

I'm okay with a new phone every two years so long as the technology keeps improving. Prob is that Sammy's screen technology is so far superior to all other cept the dreaded iPhone so Sammy it is. Hooked on visuals. There is no substitute.

Visuals.... Probably one of the best selling points of the Sammy line.....

I just really hope for all those on the Epic they do somehow figure out how to get a successful upgrade to GB.

This phone besides some bugs has been good to so many and being my first Android and learning so much from it I really hope to see it at least put to rest with a successful upgrade to GB.

The screens are beautiful and that certainly makes it hard to look elsewhere for me, that's why I am really hoping the Nexus Prime (3) is real and comes to Sprint.

I am more than worried at the continuous new Android phones coming to the market though. It seems that these companies like putting the new product out but support is really bad and will only get worse as fewer resources will be available to work on a certain phone. I really wouldn't mind Google trying to slow things down a little and work on little things and not a complete new Dessert every 6 months. It would allow the phone makers a little time to catch up, but everytime Google says Ice Cream or Jelly Bean or Klondike Bar the consumer wants it and the phone makers seem to want to give it to us in a new phone and act like our current phones are junk.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EI05 latest build

I had a little conversation with our Android Central administrator the other day via PM's and he made a point that stood out very well...

He said he is not a supporter of Apple, but he does believe they have a good thing going with the slow output of new Apple devices it gives more time for the developers to polish things and also makes releases of the product less prone to bugs and defects.

Otherwise I could care less what the "fruit phone" is doing personally. I do think Android or I should say the carriers/device makers are in too much of a rush to push out the next latest and greatest and overall quality of product and software is suffering from this.

Not saying follow the fruit and do once a year but I think the brakes do need to be applied a bit and slow it down...

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EI05 latest build

I have done almost all the Gingerbread leaks from samfirmware.com which are EF02 (a week), EG22 (had for almost a month), EH06 (a day), and currently on EH17(had since Aug 30)

I liked EF02 and never really had problems except for a couple of random reboots

I really disliked EG22 probably because I was on it for a month and GPS didnt even work. I did not want to upgrade to EH06 sine I read bad reviews about it

After a month with the frustrating EG22, I upgraded to EH06 and hated it right away. Had 5 reboots in the first hour and GPS said I was living in Michigan when I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Also 3G and 4G didnt even bother working in my area.

Upgraded to EH17 on Wednesday and so far not too many complaints. Battery (to me) seems better and the GPS is actually working for me (FINALLY!!!!) I only had 2 random reboots today from 2pm to 3pm. Not sure why. I like this build so far. Only complaint is that my Google voice settings are a little off.

Hopefully EI05 (I believe) will be a better build. Random reboots make me want to throw my Epic at an innocent bystander.

Re: Android 2.3 Gingerbread EI05 latest build

wow. I had massive probs with EH17. Multiple FCs multiple reboots within hours. You make me want to try again but I am wary. Its a lot of work.
