Android Auto

Not everyone is having this problem. As I posted earlier, I gained 11% on a 20 minute drive while using nav, streaming music and a couple of phone calls.
You may care when you take a road trip and arrive finding your phone near dead..... just sayin' :p

No, not everyone is having this problem; that is correct. I was merely asking how his battery was charging for the benefit of those who are. I am using the same cable as you are, and had issues (prior to returning the phone) in 2 cars. One would charge slowly; the oher would not even connect. Both cars and systems function just fine with a P2 XL.

Charge my phone when I get up and drink coffee.
Charge my phone when I get in the car.
I'm retired.
Got the Google charging pad, and 2 Samsung charging pads.

Got more to worry about than worrying if my phone is charged.

For a guy who "Got more to worry about than worrying if my phone is charged", you sure do a lot of charging, and have a lot of chargers!

(Sorry, my inner smartass got the best of me!)

I'm actually using an LG V20 cable because this way I don't need an adapter and whether I use the Android Auto USB port or a cheapo car charger I never drain power from the phone. It always increases. I can't imagine why there is an issue fir you but obviously it's real.

The core issue I am seeing is that when connected to Android Auto via a USB C to USB A cable is the phone reports as "slowly charging"; vs. "charging" with the P2 XL. Under the same use conditions and using the ampere app, the P2 reports 1020ma; the P3XL reported almost 1/3rd of that.

So, while technically it is charging; it is not doing so at even close to the same rate.

While connected to a USB PD car charger, both phones "charge rapidly".

Who's cable is it?

How often do you delete your Google activity out from the beginning of time.
How often do you delete your Google history out.

Do you have AOD turned off

How often do you cut your phone off and turn it back on?

just following up to my previous posts.
this morning on my drive to work I used my other cable, the google one from 6P.
I started at 96%. I turned on nav, streaming music and made a couple of text messages.
I was at 100% within approximately 10 minutes.
This is again, as close as I can tell, the same as I was getting on 2xl with the same 2 cables.
I'm happy with these gains.
My cables are both 6". One is a google cable and one is from a company called techmatte.
I think anyone having a problem, it can probably be attributed to weaker cables, but I don't know why you would get different results with the 2 different phones.
Good luck.

My is charging slowly but I don't care enough to buy another cable as there's other means to charge my phone. I am very certain its the cable and not the car because my iPhone charged super fast.

Okay, so an update on connecting and charging--

I started with a cable that I have used since day 1 with my Pixel 2 XL; AA would connect quickly and the phone would charge at a substantial rate during my 30 minute commute.

Same cable with the 3 XL would connect perhaps one time of 20 attempts and, when it did connect would "charge slowly" both figuratively (that's what the screen indicated) and literally (I would gain just a few percentage points during my entire commute, even if not using the phone at all.

I tried one of these that I had in my bag of tricks https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU6394004 and found that AA now connects quickly and reliably, but charging is no better than before.

Ordered the Google cable and found that it performed exactly as the one above. Connects well, but charging sucks.

Last night as I began my commute, I recalled that I had one of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU6394004 in my center console - I took the original cable (the one that connects poorly with AA) and plugged it into the charger and into my 3XL. The phone said it was "Charging rapidly" and indeed it did, going from 60% to 86% over the span of my 30 minute commute.

In my opinion, there is something not right with the way the 3 XL charges when connected to AA. I'm hoping that a future software update will fix it.

Car is a 2017 VW Passat, by the way.

my P 2XL doesn't work with incoming phone calls on AA...not really happy at all about it.

A poster over on XDA was saying the Nov update cured this. I have no way of testing since I returned the phone. I am assuming you are running the update?

Thanks

Hmmm... I picked up the November update a few days ago and I'm pretty sure still "Charging slowly" but I'll make a point to check it tomorrow.Screenshot_20181112-191102~2.jpeg

Anytime a new product comes out.
There are gonna be people who has bugs.
You can wait a year , but a new phone will be out.
I charge my phone 1st thing in the morning.
And before noon it's back on the charger, if it's down 10%

When I get in the Sonata be it's back on charge.

I agree about the new phone/bugs thing, and I can (and have in the past) deal with it.

However, "charging slowly" can definitely be a problem on a long trip that includes using the phone's GPS/Navigation as that (on previous phones, anyway) usually resulted in negative charge rate. You reach your destination with less battery charge than you started out with.

I think we can all agree that, in 2018, that is not acceptable.

Sounds like if you can't wait to on updates, you need to get a different phone.

I can wait. I've owned every Nexus/Pixel phone since the Nexus 4, so it won't be the first time I've waited for fixes big or small.

You are missing my point.
