Android P Public Beta -- Live!

Ohhhhhhhhhhh. That makes sense. I always (stupidly) assume that people interested in beta builds already have developer options enabled.

I would say that's stupid.. most of the time, people who jump on beta operating systems are lunatics who fiddle with every button they come across and Dev Options is usually a dumping ground for bleeding edge stuff Google hasn't found a home for yet.

Sometimes when I use a music streaming app like Spotify or Google Music, the album art associated with the last song played when the app is closed gets "stuck" on the lock screen. The app closes with no problem, but when I lock the screen and press the power button, the album art has replaced my usual lock screen wallpaper.
When you look at the Lock screen are you seeing the little music note icon on the screen? Or, to ask that another way, before you close Google Play Music are you clearing the queue? Finally, once you unlock the screen, if you swipe down on the Notification bar do you still see GPM in the Notification shade?
I can't speak to Spotify but if I don't clear the queue before exiting GPM I see the behavior you describe (expected behavior).

I still have them
My Italian, she's a no so good.

FWIW, the Home Settings page on my Pixel 2 XL does not include a "Change Icon Shape" option, either. After doing some research when I set up my device, however, I learned that it was necessary to enable Developer Options before the Change Icon Shape function would appear. I hope that helps.
That do it. I could have sworn I had developer options enabled, guess not. I enabled it and tada! Option appeared.

I've rolled back to Oreo.

Finding the device lagging and hanging on screens where I have to press the power button to turn off the screen then wake it up again. Just a little too unstable for me.

Must say, I'm already missing P. Nicer animations, I do like the new app switching carousel, I like how notifications and volume controls are handled and screen brightness is MUCH better in Android P.

Thanks for your response. All the streaming apps are completely closed when this happens. The album art are remnants of the music app that doesn't get flushed when the app is closed. A device restart does flush it from the system.

Boy. You try to be humble....

Sorry, I meant to say that it ISN'T stupid... . But it's something that I always have to keep in mind myself... Before you know something, you don't know something... everyone's experience is different.

Should I have any apprehension about trying the Android P beta on my Pixel 2 XL (which is the only phone I have)? I have everything set to Auto Backup. I may be a little naive but is there anything that could go wrong? Since I Auto Backup, is there anything else that I should do before trying it?

Make sure your photos are all stored in Google Photos to the cloud. Make backups in the settings of any apps that store their own backups, preferably to cloud storage or use a usb C flash drive and back up the app folders to that so you can restore any data. That is what I do once a week anyway.

Nova got updated today to fix the app drawer issue in the beta. Sweet!
Yeah, but don't try updating through the app unless you've made a very recent Nova backup. I ended up losing all of my Nova settings, and I'm still stuck on 5.5.3. So it'll be Pixel launcher for now until I get the time & the urge to piddle around with Nova settings.

there isn't really a lot of risk honestly. everything is backed up to your account now a days. i suppose there's some risk anytime you update the OS, beta or not,but it's minimal. the only thing to consider is that you have to factory reset if you decide to go back to Oreo.

I had updated through the play store without a problem before I posted. It does work fine that way.
