Another One Click Root Method Available [3/26]

If you need to get into the bootloader, power down the phone. When you power it on, hold one of the volume buttons while it powers on and it will go to the bootloader. What is superuser asking you to do in the bootloader?

In Titanium backup, you have to click on "Problems?" and then "Get BusyBox" for it to work. (I know...another thing that wasn't in the guide)

In settings --> about phone --> software information, what is your software number?

1.03.605.10, which is has been since the first time I tried to root; when I thought I failed, but only had to move the file over.

My signal is dead now too. supposedly I have 3G at 1-2 bars, but I can't do anything like internet or marketplace. Only calls and texts (and even texting only seems to work half the time now).

Oh, and SU is saying:
"An error occurred and su was not updated. A zip file (su-2.3.1-bin-signed.zip) has been placed on your sdcard, please reboot into recovery mode and flash it to update your su binary."

How do I reboot into recovery mode? I held the volume rocker through the boot up and nothing happened except the normal boot. Then I tried again just clicking it once, and the normal boot happened there also.

It looks like you're still in the "downgrade" version. Did you ever put the original PG05IMG.zip onto the memory card and flash that version through the bootloader?

Sent from my Thunderbolt.

The first time I didn't, which is probably where my problem lies. I didn't know I was supposed to, and the "this should take 30 seconds" message was there for 15 minutes, so I closed it and restarted. Ever since then I've been stuck at 605.10.

Would there be a way to flash it back to normal at all?

You should be able to, yes.

Take the original file that was PG05IMG.zip and put that on your SD card. Make sure it is the original file and not the one that was named PG05IMG_downgrade or RUU...

Turn off your phone. Hold down the volume down key and turn on the phone. Keep the volume down key pressed. Make sure bootloader is highlighted, and click the power button. Wait a few seconds and it will start loading the file, then check the file. If it asks you to upgrade, select yes (I believe it's the volume up button).

After 5 or 6 tries now, I can't get it to boot into bootloader mode.

Just to make sure...you're powering down by holding the power button and then choosing to turn off the device?

(edit)There's another way to do it through ADB that we can try next, but this should be easier...

Right. Not hitting restart, not doing a battery pull. Completely power it down, wait 5 seconds, power up. I've tried holding the vol. down button before hitting power all the way through until home screen, and hitting it starting right when the HTC screen pops up. Neither have worked. It just boots up normally.

Ok...are you familiar with a command prompt/DOS?

edit:
If not, it's OK. There aren't too many commands to reboot the phone into bootloader.

Very limited, but I have used DOS a few times. Mainly for playing older computer games though :P

lol, that'll work.

Open up a command prompt (windows --> run --> type cmd --> hit enter).

Navigate to the folder where your adb.exe is: "cd c:\users\***\desktop\sdk\platform-tools" I think?

Make sure your phone is connected to your computer.

Type "adb devices" into the command prompt. It should return your phone as a connected device. If it does, then type in "adb reboot bootloader" and your phone should reboot into the bootloader.

I'm in the bootloader, sweet!

It didn't ask to update. Should I just reboot and see what happened?

If you want to reload the stock image that you put on the SD card, then click the power button when "Bootloader" is highlighted. Once you click that, wait a few seconds and it should start to read the PG05IMG.zip file from the SD card. It'll ask you if you want to upgrade after it loads and checks it. Press volume up to confirm or volume down if you don't want to load it.

Then you will be where you started, and should be able to load up the batch file and start from scratch (shouldn't take nearly as long this time though since you've learned some things :) ).

Edit: Not sure if I had said it before, but to navigate between options in the bootloader/recovery, use volume up and volume down to move up and down, and power to select.

I'm not getting an update 'prompt'. After all the loading and checking of PG05IMG, it should just ask by default without me pressing anything, right?

I've seen it ask to update once, but not for the original PG05IMG folder; only time was the first time I tried to to root, and it asked to update while it was flashing the RUU...zip that was renamed to PG05IMG.

Yeah, it should ask you if you want to flash/upgrade. After it loads and checks the file, what does it do? Also, about how long does it take to do the loading and checking? What size is the PG05IMG.zip that you moved over to the SD card?

Loading/checking takes about 3-4 minutes total.

After it finished I'm at the HBOOT list with my options to choose being:
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
FACTORY RESET
SIMLOCK
HBOOT USB
IMAGE CRC

Right after it finished the checking/loading it just sits here, not asking for updates at all. I can navigate the list and stuff, it's not frozen. It's just not doing anything on its own.

The PG05IMG folder is 399MB (that is the original PG05IMG.zip, not a renamed one).

Hmm...that's the right file size. Try rebooting the phone (not into bootloader) by going to fastboot --> reboot.

Double check that the file on the SD card is the 399MB version of PG05IMG.zip just to make sure. Try deleting it from the SD card, and replacing it with a fresh copy from your download. It should work.

Then try going back into the bootloader and loading it again.

I don't understand why "software update" can't just fine what I need, omg. Lol

Just tried taking a fresh copy from my downloads and it said the file could not be found (even though it's right there). I'm gonna try and Re-DL it and do the adb bootloader method again. Sadly, I don't think I'll have time before work. v.v

Yeah, redownloading is a good idea. Maybe the initial download was corrupt? The download was pretty quick from here, but not sure how much time you have :-\ : Index of /thunderbolt
