Anyone else's Nexus 5X battery life suck?

I'll second that All4 is causing some serious battery drain. Uninstalled after my battery life took a dive after their last update and after reading here that it might be the culprit. Suffice to say I'm now back to trickling battery away and estimated times of over a full day.

Awesome.

In the handful of years I've been helping others to troubleshoot Android phone issues, I've found that a very high percentage of issues can be blamed on incompatible or non-optimized. Thanks for confirming that All4 is currently problematic, and if you would, please let the devs know so that they can correct things.

I just checked my phone and at 7am (3 more hours) it will be 4 days since I charged. The phone is reporting 42% and approx 3 days left. I would guess that people who are having battery drain problems either have a bad battery or an app that isn't playing nicely with marshmallow.

If your battery drain is normal in safe mode then you have to figure out what app is causing the problem. It's too bad there's no "startup group items" that you can simply uncheck to prevent apps from starting at boot, but unfortunately this isn't windows.

4 days? You got to be kidding me! I'm lucky to get through one day. I usually have to charge sometime throughout the day. I bought a USB-C cable for my computer, and a car charger just so that I am able to charge wherever I'm at if needed. I have never, not from day one, been able to get past needing to put it on the charger when I go to bed. That even mean sometimes when I'm in stores I have it in airplane mode when its in my pocket walking around. I power cycle it every few days just to be sure that nothing is getting hung up. You must not use your phone at all or have any apps that sync because I just don't believe that is possible with this phone. Even my old phone, Sony Xperia z3 compact which had stamina mode, that even never went past a day and a half if I was lucky.

What is All4? Never heard of it and I couldn't even find it in the Play Store.

4 days is beyond impressive.

I charge every night--there is no reason not to. You may get through the following day(s) just fine but what if you can't get to a charger when you want to? Maybe it's the worry-wort in me or the fact that where I live there are lots of trees and power outages are somewhat common, but I prefer to have as much juice as possible at all times.

Does anyone recall the power outage in 2003 that hit the midwest and northeast? I think our area was out of power for maybe 3 days....people freaked because they couldn't put gas into their cars, their phones died, and eventually I think even the cell towers didn't work. I was using a NEXTEL at the time and was able to use PTT all through the outage....those were the days :)

It's also not a good idea to run the battery all the way down every time you use it. These aren't nickel cadmiums any more. If you want to get the most battery life out of your phone long term, you want to do constant discharges and recharges every day.

+1

That's probably why I never seem to have any noticeable drop in battery performance over time :)

I've contacted channel4 about this but they replied:

Thank you for your further email and the information that you have provided.

We have looked into this mater and also the link that you have provided. Unfortunately we have not been able to find anything that would relate the battery draining on the Nexus 5x to the All 4 app.

If you are able to supply us with any information that supports this claim, we would be happy to look into this in more detail.

If you require further information, feel free to email me back or visit *website*

Not sure what I can tell them as I found nothing useful in the logs, or the "battery use" UI.

I would point them to this thread and note that you aren't alone in seeing an improvement in battery life after uninstalling the All4 app.

Go into your app list and uninstall any updates and disable Google music player.

I'm not to sure why but after 4.0 it runs in the background and when you look at it its greyed out instead of a dark black when looking at running processes.

Hope this helps. I have disabled that ugly thing on every phone since and I have had excellent battery power. uploadfromtaptalk1454257872400.jpg

Weird. I use Google Play Music all the time and battery drops are minimal....

I had this problem before Christmas, shortly after installing a few apps including All4. Uninstalled any apps I'd installed, including All4, but battery drain was still high so ended up doing a factory reset and it was fine.

Last week I installed All4 and the battery drain problems started again. I now realise it must have been All4 causing the problem before.

Only problem is, despite uninstalling All4 I the battery drain remains.

Can anyone help, I really don't want to have to do a factory reset again! Could it have installed a dependency which is still causing the drain?

Have you tried wiping the cache partition via the Recovery menu?

before returning the phone I couldn't get more than 20 hours of battery, my daily driver now is a Motorola Moto G3 and it always lasts 4 days with 6 hours of screen time, of course the CPU, GPU and screen are much more battery-friendly... that's why I can't believe Nexus 5X reaching 4 days, not even left untouched after fully charged.

Awesome, wiping the cache worked.

Before, the battery was dead by 6pm. After uninstalling All4 and wiping cache it's still at 40% by 11pm so pretty happy!

Great.

Sometimes bits of errant data don't get cleaned out with a standard "uninstall," and the cache wipe via Recovery is able to remove these bits of detritus. I think of it as a "deep clean" as opposed to the standard cleanout of an uninstall....

I'm new to Android, where is the Recovery located? I'm not seeing it in settings.
I have installed and uninstalled some apps so I'm wondering if it would help some. As for my battery, it's been mostly every other day I'm charging. If I am on my phone a lot in the day, it could go down to 40% at the end of the day but that hasn't happened much.

Recovery isn't part of the regular menu, and you don't want to muck around in this menu unless you actually have issues or know what you are doing. It's a special menu that you can see for problem solving, modding, etc.

With the device off, simultaneously press POWER + VOL DOWN for about 3-5 seconds and release. Use the VOL DOWN buttons to scroll to RECOVERY. Wipe cache is one of the options in the next screen.

If your battery goes for a full day, then your phone is probably working just fine. I recommend charging every night--unplug in the morning when you wake up. I also power down for a few minutes every day, but that's just me and my OCD tendencies :)

Stay away from apps that aren't well known or have crappy ratings, and don't sideload apps unless they are signed and from reputable sites like APKMIRROR.
